  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Right, the better FAs don't want to jump into the Yzermess. He is now the root cause of his own problems and the program will continue to spiral downward until he is given a box for his personal effects.
The better FA's always go for the top 4-5 contenders if they can. Let's not pretend otherwise no matter who the teams are.

Why not trade picks and prospects for players that can actually help the team now, not five years from now when the other guys drafted years ago are either gone or void of any playoff experience?

The wings are gonna become the sabres stuck in a perpetual rebuild, holding on to youth when the only way out of suckness is to actually surround a young core with players already established and broken out.

Trading Hronek was dumb since the guy you drafted with the pick likely never becomes as good and even if he does thats still 3+ years from now.
Wings fans make excuses for Stevie and his shitty UFA signings, calling them stop gaps. Why not sign or trade for actual good players that can help now and in the future.

Any team that had the tentpole pieces and wings fans say they do, it's at that point you proceed to the next step which isn't relying on the draft, it's uses accumulated picks and prospects to aquire players just entering their prime, or savvy vets.
I agree he should be trading these picks and prospects (some of them) for help now.

But it also needs to be a player who makes sense. They can’t just go get anyone they want, this isn’t NHL25. A player who fits the teams contending window (aka not 30+) needs to become available but there haven’t been many difference makers available like that.

Also every single Wingsbfan does Hronek for ASP+ . Its not extremely unlikely he becomes better, and Hronek wasn’t good here

And they “needed” that to be this season or last?
I like to remind people of what happened to CBJ their first playoff appearance. Their goalie played well all year, I believe CBJ went like 4 and 0 against the wings that year. First round, Det mudstomped them, broke their goalie and "gave them" playoff experience, getting in the playoffs isn't beneficial if you aren't trying to set your team up for success. Getting mudstomped in the first round is not beneficial for young players.

The same things were said about Kasper and now he’s been probably our third best forward since the coaching change after finally being taken off the 4th line. Scoring like 22 in his last 30 or something like that.

Might want to recheck that number, it’s half of that, 11 goals

Then you should reword it better. Points is 19.
Scoring like 22 in his last 30.

The way he phrased it is confusing, but point totals overall are often referred to as "Scoring".

While it is confusing, it should've been relatively obvious that "Scoring" referred to overall totals rather than just goals, as a 60 goal pace would be quite absurd for 98% of the league.

It was a failure last season that they didn't qualify, thanks to their abhorrent 7-game slide (most of the games during that stretch they were badly outplayed and looked like they couldn't wait to start their summer vacations).
And I’m asking you again, is the entire rebuild a complete failure because they didn’t make the 1st round of the playoffs (to get demolished) when that’s not the end goal?

If the Wings make it next year, is it still considered a failure? If somehow they win the Cup 3 years from now, is it still a failure because they didn’t make the playoffs that one time?

The East bubble has been very soft the last couple seasons. With Detroit consciously choosing to exit the tank a few years ago, you’d definitely expect at least a low playoff team by now.

Cherry cherry-picking series to fit your narrative. Cringe. Now do the 8 and 7 seeds who must have, somehow, luckily, bungled their way into the Conference Final.
