Detroit Redwings Downfall

  • Start date Start date
  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'm not trying to be an A-hole in saying this, but I don't understand why the Wings traded Hronek... He was great last year but I think he's been even better this season. Hronek was 25 when the deal went down, seemingly could've fit in long-term.

I think when it happened many in Van thought Yzerman was smart so Hronek must not actually be good & therefore Allvin must be dumb trading a 1st for him, but in hindsight he is that good & it was just a good acquisition. I'm not really sure why Yzerman moved him if they are trying to compete. He hasn't exactly done well in free agency with the space Fil would've taken up.

As a red wings fan I’d much much rather have ASP than Hronek. I didn’t like hroneks time here. I just do not like the style of player he is. So yeah I love that trade.

Interesting. Prime age top pair RHD are hard to get, so I'm happy with it too. Glad Wings fans are also happy then, win-win.
Now I think you’d have a very fair argument if ASP hadn’t been drafted and developed so nicely. Even though I was kind of a hronek hater if they traded him and the person they picked looked like a bust it would be seen as pretty questionable. But ASP looks to have elite talent and is also a RD so it’s looking great so far. I just don’t really like the way Hronek plays though so I was happy to get rid of him for quality assets at the time.

That's fair. Hronek's fit very well here, maybe elevated his game a bit from where it was in Detroit. Getting a guy like ASP back is certainly great at that pick so, if you we're down on Hronek then win-win.
