Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. All your top and valuable players are literally on pace to play 80 or more games, lol. The most anyone in almost your entire roster has missed is 10 games or so. Lol.
Look at your goal differential last 4 years. Only last year was respectable. The others years, atrocious, near the worst of the league. Even this year a brutal -21. 2nd worst in the entire conference.
Everybody knows Yzerman really starts cooking in his second decade, just a few more years and the #DynastyBegins
Not sure how there is a downfall if they were at rock bottom and have been slowly progressing year after year.
I think people forget how the mortgaged the future in order to make a historic consecutive year after year playoff streak.
Some bad drafting and holding onto the “streak” for too long left the team with literally 0 prospects of value.
Fast forward to 2024-2025 season… every red wings fan was hoping for them to make the playoffs; bad start to the year under ex-coach Lalonde (who if I may add was always a stopgap coach. This team wasn’t ready to win anything under his tenure in Detroit), Lalonde gets fired and the team gets fired up with Todd back behind the bench.
Fast track to today (March 8, 2025) this team despite a horrible losing streak is still in the hunt for a playoff spot and is still just a couple of points out. There is still a fair chance of them finally getting back into the playoffs.
In all honesty as a red wings fan, patience are running low and it would be nice for this team to finally be back in the same form as they were in the early 2000s and late 90s, but the league has changed since those days. Drafting and developing is the winning recipe. So far drafting has been very above average. The prospect pool which was once empty is now looking pretty full with some neat talents. Developing is in progress, this team is still a few years out from making noise in the playoffs, but making I this year would be a tremendous success, but I’m not surprised if come the second week of April, there is no post season games for this team to play.
…you people need to be patient and realistic with expectations… Like a bunch of junior high students getting upset when the senior girl denies you at a school dance….

We're talking about the last 5 games - i.e. the reason you're posting in this thread after not being seen here for 2 months. Losing Copp, Rasmussen, Mazur (right after being called up), along with Raymond+Larkin either dealing with injuries or just 4-nations exhaustion has been a major factor in the team not being better in this stretch.
They dug themselves into a hole under Lalonde. +/- 0 under McLellan. Why is what happened 4 years ago with a completely different roster and coach more relevant than the last 3 months?
It was nice of them to celebrate the Sens win so hard yesterday

Gone cold executing, but he's been lights out physically. He had some exciting jaw dropping moves last night and was very noticeable. He went full-on beast mode, but didn't execute.
When he grows into his NHL body, he will be impossible to contain.

Edvinsson their future franchise 1D is playing his 1st full season and Kasper is just starting to get his feet wet in the NHL, Raymond is 22y. Meanwhile, Werenski is at the peak of his prime already and he is what he is.BB88 said:

I don't know why staying in the hunt matters. To me problem in Detroit is this....Larkin turns 29 this year. IMO right now he's a borderline guy right now as to whether you can win a cup with him as your 1C. Even best case scenario the window for Detroit starts in maybe 2-3 years, I don't see how that works out when your top line center at the start of your window is 31/32 years old.
IMO the best option for the Red Wings is not to worry about winning and simply prioritize the development of Danielson/Kasper, where they end up will control where this rebuild goes. If they end up as #3's this rebuild is cooked. Detroit is going to have to pay a high price to bring in a #2 center, and that still doesn't fix their issue at the 1C spot. If one (or both) of them can drive enough offense to be a #2 Detroit can probably have a short contention window. Window will probably be "until Larkin can't carry the load of a #1". We don't know how long this will be, but I can't see it being over 2-3 years. If one or both of them can somehow become a #1 that allows you to move Larkin to the #2 and you're probably in a 7-8 year contention window considering how young most of the Detroit core is.

Detoit looked good playing with desperation in a must-win situation last night. The Sens couldn't match that, which is understandable as it wasn't a must-win.
The team is reasonably good, it has talent. Yes, the bottom pairing on D, and some depth NHL vets are meh, but that's the case with most teams. I'd say that a good to great goalie would have helped a lot, instead of their collection of average to bad goalies.
I know they're waiting for their top 2 goalie prospects, but that is risky. You can't bank on goalies for certain. Either of them could end up anywhere from bad to great. They needed a good vet to bridge the gap.
They should have grabbed an Ullmark, Thompson, or Stolarz. For example, Woll was good in the playoffs last year, but that didn't prevent TO from getting Stolarz. Same with Lindgren (good season overall) / Thompson.
