Detroit Redwings Downfall

This thread was never about a bad 2 months.
Yes, it was. There's reasons these threads get made and explode with activity when the team is struggling, but go dead silent when the team is winning.

The entire reason some of us Wings fans are bumping the thread in good times is to balance out the fact that every losing streak is the start of another "bash the Wings" thread.

An internal hard cap number instead of a % of the cap at the time of signing number is how great teams lose elite talent for pennies on the dollar. Makes zero sense. Your captains feelings aren’t gonna get hurt, if anything they are upset you made their goal of winning a cup harder.

Number or percentage is irrelevant. Blowing $13M on a UFA winger grossly exceeds both.

What’s your definition of elite? Top 5 forward? Top 10? How many elite forwards are there in the NHL? How many elite D?
Not sure an exact definition but @RedHawkDown has a pretty good one above. Raymond being the age he is, top 16 in scoring right now, 4 points out of the top 10 in scoring and how he does all kinds of other little stuff? Its definitely time for the elite conversation at this point in the season and his second half last year

Since last January... keeping some pretty good company.

Actually no. I've posted several cards all over HF and always do. I've posted several very positive cards in this thread as well.
...

You may want to clarify this. I mean, I think it's clear that you disagree, but the rest of your response doesn't seem to address my point you have quoted, at all.

What was it, maybe 6 weeks ago in this thread that people were talking shit about how Yzerman/Draper can't draft outside the first round?

Pretty funny watching Johansson and Soderblom these days...
Again, I think the criticism was NA skaters. Detroit’s European scouting under Hakan has always been great. People need to quit moving the goalposts.

Nah, there were definitely people just blanket talking shit about Detroit's drafting outside the first since Yzerman took over.

I'd try to find them, but it's a 102 page thread lol.

I’ll concede there might be a poster or two of that ilk, but to the criticism of NA skaters drafted under Yzerman/Draper, can we get some defense of those?

I think we had a full page or two of it, but that may be an exaggeration.

The NA drafting/scouting is pretty rough though. But at least Yzerman plays to his strengths overseas. Beats Holland having Hakan in his organization and putting all his trust in Tyler Wright to draft NA heavy.

Honestly, it might also be good development, too. They're just churning studs out of the SHL.

I dislike posting in this thread.
However I just want to thank the Chicago Blackhawks for letting Kaner go.

So thank you.

His shootout goal tonight was nuts. Even Daccord was like “wtf”

Kane is mostly useless 5 on 5 or even on the PP, but he can hold it down on a breakaway/shootout.

Man, the temptation to quote like 50 different posts in this thread is strong. Multiple posters crapped all over Detroit's ability to draft outside the 1st round regardless of euro/NA.

Given Detroit's strong focus on drafting out of europe in the first few drafts under Yzerman we're still waiting to see the NA draft picks really materialize. But I think Mazur, Lombardi, Finnie, Augustine and Buium are among guys that might change the tune a bit. Give it a year or two.
