I'll just leave this here when you're bored...

Red Wings Have The Worst Draft Lottery Luck This Decade

To summize:

  • Dropped 2 spots in 2017 from 7th to 9th where they took Michael Rasmussen
  • Dropped 1 spot in 2018 from 5th to 6th where they took Filip Zadina
  • Dropped 2 spots in 2019 from 4th to 6th where they took Moritz Seider
  • Detroit dropped 3 spots in 2020 draft from 1st to 4th where they took Lucas Raymond
  • Stayed put in 2021 and 2022 where they took Simon Edvinsson and Marco Kasper at 6th and 8th overall respectively
While accurate, Detroit got to benefit from 25 years making playoffs and deep runs. Had literal all star teams with multiple first ballot HHOF players at the same time. Sorry if people don't feel sorry for you. Look at teams who have gone close to or over 50 years with minimal or no success and ask if you'd like to trade I bet you won't.

Didin't tank hard enough , for sure some bad luck but how are you expecting to win lotterys when you finish 5-9 most of those years. The only real bad luck was the Raymond drop
Let me ask...How's things for the Habs these days?

Has finishing worse than Detroit appear to have helped your current, or long term future?

What do the habs have to do with my post? Our rebuild started 3 years ago and we got some nice pieces from it , I'm just saying you guys should have tanked harder I don't know why you brought my fanbase into it I didin't even take a shot at your team lol.

Clearly you know things aren't going great for you guys or you wouldn't have answered with that passive aggressive comment

Tanking for the sake of obtaining (thru luck) that coveted !st overall pick for multiple years isn't guaranteed success - otherwise Edmonton (or Buffalo) would've won a few Cups by now.

Not only that - what does tanking do to the fan base, or the current roster of young players?

*IF* tanking = Cups...Then yeah I would agree we're doing it wrong.

BTW - I've been noted to around these parts to have coined the phrase 'Minnesota Mediocrity' and I have used that in reference to my beloved Red Wings...Maybe good enough to make the playoffs - maybe not, but if we do make it into spring we won't likely last past the 1st round.

That's my honest take.

All of Detroit's picks were lottery picks in Yzerman's tenure, and Kasper and Danielson aren't exactly sure things. The endless whining about missing out on Barrett Hayton and Bowen Byram never made much sense to me, sure you have 2020 but giving up after one try didn't go perfectly is just sad.

So Yzerman doesn't get credit when his 6th OA picks pan out because they're lottery picks. But when guys Yzerman didn't even pick at 6th overall bust, it's Yzerman's fault for the way they developed.

Keep digging that hole.

I nor do any of my fellow Red Wing fans are asking to felt sorry for - just we 'lol' at the notion that many in here think that we should be Cup contenders by now.

And yes - since being a fan of the Red Wings circa 1984 - I wouldn't trade my past success for anything...We had our run - hoping sometime in the next 3 to 5 seasons we can replicate it (not gonna hold my breath)...

We've either dropped back, or if 'lucky' we've stayed where we are at in draft lotteries.

Dude - like there's all sorts of 'elite' talent there - just waiting to be plucked

Yeah bro, getting two Top pairing D both at 6OA is child's play.

Nevermind that Seider pretty easily goes 2nd in a redraft these days, even though Detroit was mocked incessantly for that pick at the time. Edvinsson's making a pretty solid case to move up in a redraft too. But it's easy. A kid could do it.

It's been a major point of discussion for at least 5 years. Arguably the biggest questionmark of the rebuilding-timeline.

I'd argue Vegas doesn't have a single player close to that level and they won the cup. St.Louis didn't either when they won. So then you need to start including guys like Eichel, Stone, Marchessault, O'Reilly and Tarasenko in the conversation and yes, I think there's decent odds Detroit finds at least one player in that type of tier eventually.

Don’t even try that with Vegas, they sure as heck had high end stars and were like 15M over the cap so they had unrealistic depth as well

Blues is the only example where you can even try to make your case and even there RoR was playing at superstar level, Selke+ Conn level which no Detroit players has come even close to hitting

If you can find 1 example that’s not even really on point that’s probably not the model you want to and can build a winner around

If you look at East it’s basically a must you need superstars on offense
