Detroit Redwings Downfall

I do see the points that Yzerplan fans are making... he wins some redrafts, Raymond may end up a 100 point stud, Seider is amazing, Edv is looking solid. Asp is a very good prospect and puts up points everywhere (except against my Czechs). Kaspar is a legit NHLer. So will Danielson. So will the Norwegian (I really gotta learn his name)....

BUT

They are missing that tippy toppy guy to add to this. I was hoping they'd tank the shit out of this season after that start. Add a Top 3 pick who is NHL ready (and yes, I'd grab the BAF.. best available forward) and see a significant improvement next year.

Longwinded but making the playoffs gets the wings a mid first round pick. I think they need a top 3 stud. I'll even concede they've had shitty lottery luck. I'm an Oiler fan so I know a lot about lottery luck.lol

I generally agree, I had already given up on the season and was content with a top-5 pick. I thought it'd be a blessing in the disguise, and it can still happen, though unlikely.

I think people forget that Wings really did bottom out, it was 4 years of being a bottom 5 team I believe. To not get a top-3 pick really messed with this team, but Yzerman has done a great job adding Raymond, Seider and Edvinsson.

It's been 8 years of no play-offs and completely bottoming out, at some point you gotta go start moving up in the standings. The team was playing so terrible under Lalonde i feared that he would ruin some players.

The hope now for us Wings fans is that this is the first step, the addition of Cossa, MBN, Danielson and ASP along with some depth will help take the team to yet another step. Seider and Raymond hitting their prime will also help. There is also cap for a splash trade or FA signing.

DRW have 1 of best prospect pools in the league with a lot of 1st round talent projecting well Cossa, ASP, MBN, Danielson plus a boat load of other prospects. It will be a solid core.

I would’ve been fine with bottoming out to get a top forward but it’s far from the only way the Wings can progress. As it stands, the Wings rebuild progression is going to come from the defense and goaltending. It actually already is. A huge reason for the Wings 6 game win streak is that McLellan split up Ed and Mo, and they both anchor their pairing and elevate their defense partner, giving Detroit 2 solid defense pairs instead of just one. If ASP and one of Cossa/Augustine hit, we’ll have a ridiculously young and talented back end. That can get us on the playoff ascent and buy us some time to address the forward situation via UFA or trade.

He’s a master at avoiding contact along the boards, lol, that might have something to do with his longevity. And he does a great job of lurking and conserving his energy (reminds me a bit of late-stage Brett Hull in that way). But it’s working for him. Under McLellan, he’s looked like a first liner again.

I think that's a fair post, and three weeks ago I had mentally pivoted to tanking to try and get Misa at 4 ... but I do think there's something to not letting a losing culture infect the team, especially the young guys, and you were definitely starting to see that. I'd rather have Raymond, Seider, etc. do well and succeed this year even if it means a lesser draft pick.

Still .. point taken - need to find a way to get another stud forward.

It has been explained to you in details in one of the gazillion pages. Haters like me believe your core is not close to being good enough in comparison to most recent cup winners. Detroit fans argue it's the STL model but to me STL winning was a fluke. We're gonna have to wait and see but for now I'm gonna continue hating. Remindmein2years!

Not sure what you're trying to say, but no I know Detroit is not going for a cup this year, but that's another issue I have with your rebuild. Wasting away the prime age of Larkin, Debrincat and even old man Kane waiting for B prospects
