Wings are still bad and they still should have weaponized the cap and aim for a lotto pick instead of signing mediocre players. A little win streak doesn't change that
They signed the vets in 2022 off-season coming off like 74 or something points.

22-23, bottom 4 teams finished with 58, 59, 59, 60 points
23-24, bottom 3 teams finished with 47, 52, 59 points
24-25, bottom 3 teams pacing for 56, 60, 65 points

Would have been very difficult to out tank those 3 clubs the prior 2 seasons. Really talking about moving up from where they were when they took Danielson and Nygard. But, don't think they could have been at the bottom of the standings.

didn't Yzerman literally say in his press conference recently that a wild card spot was the intended goal for this year?

I guess he could have been lying about that and that's just another part of his genius plan :sarcasm:
So now you believe the things he says? Convenient...

You're right that they're better than the 3-4 tanking teams, but they got mostly lucky to finish ahead of teams like Utah and Ottawa last year. I just hate how they fill the cap leaving no place for potential trades plus how the vets block a guy like Berggren from getting a shot.

They’re 4 points behind Ottawa and 1 point ahead of NYR with over half the season left
The tough part for Detroit is strength of schedule remaining. You can see all team’s strength of schedule in the links.

This site has Detroit ranked at first (hardest)
Rangers 11 hardest
Sens at 26th hardest

Another site for strength of schedule has
Detroit first (hardest)
Rangers at 9th hardest
Senators at 28th hardest

That could be for the best for us long term. Might allow the team to improve their play while still not winning enough games to hurt their draft pick significantly. Of course, we'd like to make the playoffs. But another shot at the lottery doesn't hurt.

One guy in this thread who hasn't gotten enough respect when people say Detroit has no offensive game breakers is Raymond. Calendar year of 2024 when he was 21/22, he had 35 goals and 82 points.

This season with how pathetic the majority of the team was, Raymond is currently on pace for 34 goals and 86 points this season where he'll basically be 22 the whole time. Those are starting to look like clear offensive game breakers numbers

Think how better off they'd be with a sooner coaching change

Well, one thing for sure is this thread wouldn't reach close to 88 pages! Majority of the trolls packed up and moved along since the coaching change. Sure, there's a few stragglers coming back here and dinky flexing.

They just regurgitate the same message over-and-over again, and pretend they have some god given special knowledge. They're only god given talent is being dinks.

But it's fun to read through this thread just to laugh at them :D

Fun seeing Raymond deliver. Always like him (on the ice, he was awefully annoying as a rookie in the SHL when I worked there) since him coming up big on the U18 finals with the hattrick, and it seems like last spring was no fluke, or?

How’s his 200f game? Can he grow even more as a player? What’s he doing right/wrong?

Firm believer that he’s the next forward from Sweden that can rise to the occasion when he’s asked on, like Zetterberg and Foppa

He’s always been better defensively than he’s been credited for. This year he’s taken the next step, being on the PK, thriving when defending against an empty net, and just generally being a stronger defensive zone player. I’d argue much of the defensive downfall of that line, at times, is actually Larkin (who has always been a bit overrated on the defensive side).
