For a guy that never had a 40 points season in 6 NHL seasons, I would say that it’s not a bargain either to say the least.

Is there anything about his hockey skills that make you think he will never hit 40 points during a normal NHL season?

He's been a good addition to the team since getting traded.

It’s not a bad contract, I just wish we had a better player to take his spot

Detroit to DC
I think the term is spot on. Maybe like 250-500k more AAV than I expected, but that's a non-issue for Detroit. 4m is not a lot of cap these days.

I never say he never will, I said he never has.

My point is that the deal is not a steal or anything, it's an okay contract for a 3rd liner who averages around 0.5PPG career wise at 25 years old.

Since August. 2020, 9 players have signed a contract in the 3.75M$-4.25M$ range.

Hoffman: Proven 25 goal scorer, Career 0.717PPG
Granlund: Career 0.65PPG
Stasty: Career 0.7519PPG, he did slowed down the last few years thought.
Toffoli: Proven he can score 30 goals, Career 0.598PPG
Verhaeghe: Career 0.5819 PPG
Foligno: Career 0.504PPG
Jenner: Career 0.464PPG
Beauvillier: Career 0.457PPG, 21 goal career high
Lafallo: Career 0.4772PPG
Fabbri is a career 0.4963PPG 18 goals career high.

You can say that his production is around what you would expect from a 4M$ forward, but it's nothing special here. Plus you aren't really paying for potential at the age of 25, the player is what he is.

Thus like I said, the contract is far from being a bargain. It's ok, but it's not a like Red Wings have signed him at a steal of a deal. Overpaid might have been a strong term thought, I'll give you that.

Havent really watched the player in years but his production over the last 3 has been solid

Maybe Yzerman drank too much yesterday?
Could this deal be the result of a hangover?
It was already Jul. 16, 2021.

Detroit won’t be a cap team for a while, term is really all that matters and it’s nice to have a useful player to them a bit longer as they build.

So he's the first Red Wing to be signed for the 24-25 season. Didn't see that coming tbh.

Solid enough deal. He's 25, not 35, so there's actually room for him to improve and have his best years in front of him.
Fabbri is a career 0.4963PPG 18 goals career high.
Needs to be put into perspectice of having some injury derailed seasons and playing minimal minutes on the Blues.
For the Wings he's been a 0.57PPG player which is really, really solid given the state of the team during that timeframe.

He's a fairly reliable depth scorer. Needs to stay healthy.
