I find it funny that people expected Vanek to fetch more than a 3rd when he got a 2nd + mediocre prospect (Collberg) in his prime.

He's older now, has a worse reputation now and recently just got bought out, told everyone he wouldn't fetch much.

3rd + prospect imo

Nailed it, McIlrath is still considered a prospect right? ;)

3rd round? Are you ******** me? I would have rather kept him...

You can't really do that... But definitely makes it seem like there wasn't much interest.

There also might be more to it.

A 3rd, really?

I have a hard time believing that Det couldn't find better offers. Especially with a couple hours left. What is this?

So much for everyone saying its a terrible draft. Hardly ANY first rounds being traded

No way. A contender wouldn't give a late second for him? He doesn't have much cap hit left and would be a great fit for contenders close to the ceiling. Terrible return if it's just a third.

Fantastic trade by Florida. Vanek for a third is a great pick up. Smart pickup for a vet that could mesh well down there.

 Said all along he wasn't any team's top choice. Not even a 2nd...shows what GMs think of him.

Good deal for the Panthers, no risk at all. And maybe Vanek will prove people wrong like he did with DRW this year. If so, great deal.

Despite Vanek being good for Detroit, I suppose his reputation still hovers above him.

Better to get something then let him rot.
