How would you guys rank Stepan, Brassard, and Hayes? I suspect Hayes is third but he's still awesome. Really envious of your guys' center depth

Right now it's Brass @ #1, Steps @ #2, & Hayes @ #3.

Brass has the best shot and the best speed of the bunch.
Steps has the best head and is the most responsible.
Hayes has the best hands and perhaps best vision.

Some people call Brass and Steps 1a & 1b (in no particular order), or some people claim that they are both tweeners (not true #1 Centers). If Hayes continues his upward momentum, soon you may hear talk of 1a, 1b, 1c

Going forward, if Steps heightens his game and Kreids comes alive (and they find a competent regular RW for Steps), many will claim Steps is the #1 on this time. It varies over the course of the year.

The cherry on top of all of this is that Oscar Lindberg is a natural Center. If anything happens to one of our top 3, Oscar can fill in on one of the Center spots. Honestly, we have 7 guys who can Center on this team. Brass, Steps, Hayes, Moore, Stoll, Lindberg, and Miller (in a pinch).

We are deep. :)

This thread is always such a ghost town. 20 posts since May...Girardi gets that over lunch.

There's nothing to complain about this guy. Girls love him because he looks cute, guys love him because he is ****ing awesome as a hockey player and he performs in the play-offs... And all that for a 5m cap hit.

I am happy his NTC has started so we don't have to see him in bern's proposals ;)

And yet we still see him in this proposals lmao....

Thank god bern isn't management.

Brassard is a #1 center. Just a better player than Stepan.

Stepan is good but Brassard is more dynamic.

What a great trade that was getting rid of Gaborik and his salary for Brassard. Gaborik was a very good UFA signing at first but Slats was smart enough to turn this asset into real good player (Brassard)

He's not an ideal first line center, but I do agree that he's better than Stepan. Better passer, better shooter, just all around better. He's Brad Richards light... when Brad Richards was still good.

I am a huge Brassard fan, but Stepan is better. Stepan is a two-way center who is arguably elite when it comes to defense-first centers. Brassard tears it up in the play offs though. I am very happy to have these 2 guys on our top lines.

The Rangers signed Brass to a very good contract. 5 years. $25M. I remember when the signing was announced on Sunday afternoon in July. A lot of complaining. $13M in the first 2 years. He gets a $2M bonus in July 2016. Just $10M in real money left in the remaining 3 years.

I said at the time that a couple years down the line the contract might be a bargain. Right now it's looking like it will be.

I'd say Stepan is better but he's played terribly and uninspired this season. But I have to say, when BrassGOD mode is on, he's been better than Stepan at his best so maybe that means Brass has a higher ceiling?

Firing on all cylinders, they're both about in the same range: 20 goals, 60 points.

I don't know if either is "more" than that at this point, though in a given year they could surpass that.

But that seems to sum up the Rangers offense in general these past couple of years - not having all guys firing on all cylinders in the same season.

Just when it seems like some players take it up a notch, another one stumbles, that that player steps up and another regresses.

Good post. Brassard is more talented than Stepan and it seems Brassard is starting to get more consistency to his game. He is the #1 center for the Rangers. Stepan is good but I just don't see #1 center talent with him

Brassard has absolutely tremendous chemistry with Zuke. When him and Zuke are playing well they're the best line on the ice.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash never had insane chemistry, but they were all very strong two-way players, with Stepan strategically playing off of the speed and strength on the wings.

Steps looked good before his injury except for a 5 or so game stretch when the team was winning. Then he got injured and hasn't scored since he came back, but hasn't looked too bad.

I did think Brass was overpaid; i thought Zuke was carrying him and I wanted enough money to keep Zuke AND Stepan. Brass has been fantastic since the contract was signed though, and it's hard not to like him.

In terms of celly power rankings:

#1 - Keith Yandle
#2 - Chris Kreider
#3 - Derick Brassard
#4 - The rest of the team

In terms of "trash talking players during the game or otherwise being sassy in general" power rankings:

#1-9 - Derick Brassard
#10 - Competition isn't even close
