If he's getting full time second line duties I can see him getting 50-60 but I don't think that's going to happen I think him and Richards will both bounce back an forth between the 2/3 C spot,

Sure, but if you are going to consistently outscore the other line, you can live with defensive flaws.

That's EXACTLY what I want the Rangers to do. I'm a believer in franchise identity. In the same way I feel the New York Mets win with pitching and timely offense, rather than overwhelming power like the Yanks, I feel the Rangers, historically, are most successful with a creative, offensive-minded team and a superstar goaltender.

Early 70s: GAG line, Park + Giacomin

Early/mid 90s: Messier, Leetch, Graves, Kovalev, Gretzky + Richter

With this edition, I think the best way to go is to embrace the puck-moving and skating abilities of Del Zotto, Staal, and McDonagh; overload your offense with as much talent as you can; rely on Henrik to stop the big ones and hold the fort. It's precisely what I thought we were getting when Torts came in, and he turned it into an infuriatingly timid, passive squad.

Pretty much every great Ranger team was one of the best offensive teams in the league. Even the 2011-12 squad was 11th in scoring, and they fell flat in the playoffs WHEN THEY STOPPED SCORING.

Nope. I just think there's room to try purely offensive combinations with the Rangers defense and Henrik in net.

I just dont think thats enough offense to offset the shortcomings. I mean, things would have to break perfectly for that line to work out.

Brassard played way above his career norms here last season. Will that continue? Maybe, but not likely.

Kreider looked lost virtually the entire season.

Zuccarello, for all the pining over his offensive wizardry, hasnt exactly produced at a wonderful rate.

On the other hand, theres question marks all over this roster, especially at forward, so you might see it tried out.

Kreider looked scared more than he did lost. I think its hard to play for a coach where one mistake gets you benched, which is exactly what Torts was doing to Kreider. Sure he looked lost at times, but he was a rookie.

Not sure scared is the right word. You could see him thinking on the ice rather than playing and reacting.

JT Miller, who was 2 years younger, when out there trying to make a difference each night and got more icetime because of it. He wasnt ready for the NHL, but he wasnt scared, overthinking, or whatever else you want to label Kreider's issues as.

And lets call a spade a spade - they were Kreider's issues. No one else's.

Would anyone else here like to see a line of Kreider - Brassard - Zuccarello? Let Kreider find the open ice while Brass and Zuke dance around the zone setting up the play.

I suspect that line will be on the ice for more GA than GF and not by small margin....

True but Kreider did the same thing when he was brought up in the playoffs, mainly because Torts threw him out there and told him to play hockey. Same thing happened to JT. He got here, they knew he wasn't ready, but they just let him play. Kreider wasn't really looked at as a young kid because he did so well in the playoffs. Im not saying Kreider played great, but he was grossly over thinking plays rather than just playing the game, which can be partially blamed on Torts.

True, but he was over thinking because he wasn't sure what he wanted to do was what Torts wanted him to do.

I don't think 50-60 pts with a chance of MAYBE ~70 points is unrealistic. The thing that makes me very optimistic about him is he just completely took over our offense in the playoffs, in games 3 and 4 against Washington he was involved in more than half the goals we scored. Extra encouraging because he's never seen the NHL playoffs. However I do think a lot of his points will come from the powerplay, he seems to shine there.

I am guessing 50 points. Which is nothing to scoff at. That's a very good #2 center production-wise.

Except on HF where that's third line production. Anything over 50 is gravy for Brass next year, I think it's best to keep expectations somewhat modest. I could easily see him surpassing that though.

Depends on how he is used. What wings he gets. How much power play time. Playing with Pouliot, Callahan, Nash, Hagelin is a little different than playing with Pyatt, Dorsett, Boyle. Being the guy who distributes the puck to the shooter or being the go to shooter on the power play is different than being stuck on the 2nd unit where at best teams just hope to retain offensive possession most of the time.

Massive improvement over "trying not to ice the puck on the pp" as your tactic.

Yes, let's call a spade a spade. JT Miller was drafted where he was partly because he's abrasive and confident to a fault. He would try to make a difference no matter who coached the team. But his personality also led to many turnovers that took place because he has a smaller conscience than most. CK is a different kid who needed a coach who showed trust in him. Torts put him on too short of a leash and the end result is he got a player who didn't perform. Torts' style absolutely impacted CK and other players as well as do all coaches.

Even if I didn't think your psycho-babble was a complete crock, I still have trouble taking the side of players that need to be coddled to perform.
