Saw who was posting in this thread and knew what the criticism would be before I even read it. The predictability of some of our guys here is hilarious.

Stepan will be fine. He's in good position, and it's only a matter of time before he starts catching some breaks.

Not sure what you mean by good position. I assume it means never being near the net. Sometimes its a cop out to bash someone who is critical of a player, rather than answering the criticisms.

During last years 3 rounds of playoffs where he scored only one goal, did you keep saying its only a matter of time?

Have you watched him play this year, just hangs around the perimeter and never looks to make a scoring play. Is he getting gun shy? what breaks isnt he catching?

Way off topic, but the comments here recently and the post above reminded me of something.

From what I have heard, young folks getting their performance reviews at companies are upset enough at the feed back they get that their parents are picking up the phone and complaining to the HR department.

I wonder how long before that starts happening around here?

Again, he's the best center we've drafted since Savard because our drafting has been ****! It's a testament to the ****** scouting, not to Stepan. Who else can he be compared to since Savard??????? Dominic Moore? Lol. Could have had a franchise center in 2003 or 2006, do we need to re-explore those drafts again?

Edit: wtf this quoted the wrong person

First off, it's not pathetic.

Second, you should check/remind yourself where the Rangers have been drafting the last few years. You should actually be quite satisfied with the results especially if you consider how bad this team used to be at drafting.

Agree but when you really think about it, how wonderful have our recent drafts really been?

some of the criticism around here is unreal, i guess stepans the new whipping boy, unlike the old whipping boys like frolov and wolski hes got talent and upside. Hes been getting much better on faceoffs and is due for a big game, im just going to wait until he gets a good winger be it nash or gaborik and starts do do "something good", which around here is only when he gets on the scoresheat, for the negative nancies around here to eat some crow.

The jury is still out on the recent drafts. You need a few years to fully judge how a team did in a draft. For example, Carl Hagelin played his first NHL game more than 5 years after getting drafted.

Quick, name the NHL centers 22 and younger who scored 50+ points last season.

Of those players, how many were second round picks.

Devil's advocate: he's entering his third full season.

ranger's advocate :sarcasm:: he had 2 50 pt seasons to start his career and is on pace for another(in 82). regardless of how poorly or not he may be playing, those numbers are impressive. his game against the flyers was probably his best.

i'm w/o a doubt more concerned about richards than stepan--- but once again it's who he is playing with. nash and gaborik do all the work, richie doesn't need to do anything

Seriously, every time I read your post I think how appropriate that handle and that avatar is. All you do is Krei.

Not for nothing, posters on this board have in fact been overrating our prospects for as long as I can remember.

Exactly right! Where exactly are the star players we have drafted the past seven or so years?

He has basically maxed out his ability. Name me one thing that is really remarkable about his game????

His extremely high intelligence? How do you know he has maxed out his game? He's a 22 year old, second line center who has 100 points through two seasons and change.

If you're inferring that Stepan is the best 22 year old drafted in the 2nd round or later, I'm about to shoot holes in that ridiculous theory:

1) Adam Henrique, age 22+ was
drafted #82(3rd rd) in 2008(same
draft as Stepan); he had 51 points
last year(like Stepan)and is far and
away a better all player than Stepan. He also didn't crap out in the playoffs like Stepan!

2)Ryan O'Reilly, drafted #37(2nd rd)
in the 2009 draft is a much better
all around center than Stepan as
well.

I would take either of two players above in a nano second over Stepan!

I haven't even looked at the 2010, 2011 or 2012 drafts as of yet.

Richards is overrated, looks out of shape and takes way too many dumb penalties. If we don't do anything significant this year in the playoffs(and I personally feel we are going to be picked off in the 1st round if we are a 4th seed or lower), I would seriously consider buying out Richards, get his bloated contract(along with Redden's 5.5 mil) off the cap and go strong after Getzlaf and Ryan(Perry will most likely be resigned unfortunately).

Okay, lets stay on the topic of Derek Stepan and not question each others character.

We have so many holes offensively and a defense while solid that doesn't scare anybody and will be seriously overworked by the time the playoffs roll around. Sounds like a familiar theme to me.

Man so much hate and negativity. Give the team time to warm up. D is improving. Have faith in our team. All you do is complain about the Rangers. If we had the 2nd coming of Gretzky, Thered still be complaining.

How do I know? Just an intelligent guess based on what I see and the lack of improvement in his game since he's been in the league.

Personally, I think that Stepan is going to end up being a 12-15 goal scorer(full season) when all is said and done and if they don't get him some real scoring wings to play with, his production will stagnate going forward.

High Intelligence is not enough to survive and thrive in the NHL.

And how do you propose we fix all these problems?

Get Sather the hell out of here would be a good start my friend.

Posters around here open up ridiculous "Sather Appreciation Threads" when in fact he has done absolutely nothing and should have been fired 8 years ago.

Because you are a thriving NHLer.
Man, with your logic, gaborik will score no more than 18 goals a season, and Hank will win less than 10 games. Get a grip. Young players. Short season. No training camp.

What are you actually basing that on? Would love to know, considering Stepan has had 17 and 21 goal seasons to this point, and he went from 45 to 51 points in his two years here, as a 20 and 21 year old.

High intelligence and passing skill is definitely enough for some players. Especially when you add in solid two-way play. There have been players of his type before that have succeeded in the NHL, and have been key players for a long time. Players like Marc Savard, Paul Stastny, and Brad Richards.
