its going to be slats approach to sign him.. is he going to go shrt and give 2yr the usual or is he gonig to anti up a little bit and give a long term deal..

Enough with Stepan he is a third line center at best, I mean come on he had a few bad games to start the season, tell me anyone better then a 3rd liner ever have a bad few games to start the season. Lets trade Stepan while we can maybe get a 7th round pick for him.

I am obviously joking because I remember opening night while I am wearing my Stepan jersey and he was having a rough game, like everyone else that game, all I heard was these people *****ing about Stepan the whole night.

Interesting how the scouts pegged him as more of a scorer. He's finally coming into his own as a scorer this year, but until this year he wasn't that great of a scorer.

I knew he had the talent from his first game in Buffalo with the hat-trick. Special player, clicked with Gabby, and now clicking with Nash.

Good catch. Here is his stat-line from his draft year:

Shattuck-St. Mary's High-MN 60 44 67 111

More assists than goals. He registered a lot more assists in college than he did goals. He's always had a good shot, accurate anyway. I think that he's learned to get it off faster this year.

Boy, he is playing with some confidence right now, and this stretch has been long and virtually uninterrupted.

Coming into his own, controlling the flow of the game whenever he steps onto the ice. This is the way he impacted games before he got to the NHL.

Could not be happier with the way he has played for most of this season.

Absolutely. This is the guy we remember from the 2010 WJC's. Best player in that tourney and that was on both sides of the puck. Imagine a team with processors in the head like this kid has:D

I learned my lesson. Even though I liked him in his draft year, I was very skeptical and based my initial reaction off of what had transpired years before that. I let the emotion of not getting the guys I preferred get in the way of taking him for what he was and could be. Looking back is not about being right, it's always about how can we get better :)

Great post Bob, you are right. They are not touching him for less than 4 million IMO. He could get more!!

Biggest "surprise" this season, I've always seen him as a 2nd line center, but he have really been showing that he got the skill set to be a 1C, so impressed by him!!!

I always remember you talking about Stepan and how he should be using his playmaking abilities rather than just shooting for the sake of it. He is definitely rounding off into complete player and something i noticed the other night against Carolina was when he entered the zone he played a perfect little saucer pass i think it was to Nash whereas before he would have just looked to get a shot off.

My memory sucks so i can't remember if it was his rookie year or last year that you had said he needs to use his playmaking abilities that he was known for but it was something that made me watch him closer as i don't really get to see our players/prospects unless they are on the Rangers.

Any way we can duplicate that processor and implant it into Kreider's head?

At this point, I would consider buying out Richards this offseason rather than next if it meant getting Stepan locked up.

Still, I think they keep Richards on the extra year.

Stepan will never be a great skater, but he has improved significantly. His puck skills and ridiculous hockey IQ are able to come to the forefront now that his skating has improved.
