Don’t think sennecke was/is a bad pick at all. Think he’ll be a very good player. But I would never swap Demidov for him. I’m a fan of a team that has been starved of a prospect of his caliber since atleast my 26 years. That probably says more about the habs prospects than Demidov but I have high hopes

BS was selected 3rd because of all the tools he has and the potential he brings, but I think Demidov is a noticeably better player now and is much more likely to hit his potential than Sennecke.

It's ID and it's not terribly close right now.

Demidov clearly as it stands, just because I think Michkov is better doesn’t mean I don’t think Demidov can’t be a top 10 point getter in the NHL, it’s so obvious he’s got an unreal offensive skill set, I hope he thrives. Habs fans care about hockey more than other fanbase they deserve it, it’s been awhile.

Sennecke is really good. Demidov is special tho. I think hes going to be Kucherov/Kaprizov level threat when he gets here. You take that type of talent everyday.

Feel like this is going to be a yearly thread, and every year sennecke is going to get more and more votes.

“Canadiens fans pump the tires of their most recent first round pick saying he’s better than someone selected earlier” is already a yearly thread.

If you want to have a laugh read projections for Montreal's prospects 5 - 10 years ago. Not trying to ridicule, just take it with a grain of salt, it's probably been like this for a long time.

Not a Habs fan, but I think Demidov has the highest offensive ceiling in the class.

There's always the possibility that Sennecke ends up better. The "upside" is potentially there. But for me, Demidov is the far more likely bet to become an absolute star player, and it's a pretty significant gap.

So, honest question, I really no nothing about either player. Simple question though, if ID is a better player and it's not close, why would BS have been picked ahead of ID in the draft 5 months ago? Perhaps you already answered that in that BS was picked because he has higher upside (potentially) and suggestion is simply that ID is better right now?

BS could become a prototypical power forward. Good size, decent skater, amazing set of mitts.

Those types hold a lot of value if they hit, which is obviously what the Ducks are hoping for with picking him so high.

There are also various geopolitical issues with Russian players right now, and despite the fact Demidov seems determined to come over within a year or so, him being in Russia probably scared a few teams away.

I'm voting Sennecke, but it's not a hill I'll die on.

I voted the way I did because I love Sennecke and wanted him on the Wild. I think it's too close to call for me at the moment so this was my tiebreaker.

But is he like a Samsonov type? I remember loads of hype about him well before the draft, ultimately he fell back a bit and was a very good player, but nowhere near the earlier hype

Ducks never draft players who are playing in russia in the 1st round and Sennecke being a right shot vs Demidov being a left shot had something to do with it.

Ducks had told the media last summer they were looking to add a right shot top 6 forward. It makes sense to want a right shot when they have Zegras, Mctavish, Gauthier, and Carlsson who are all left shots.
