Tampering?

NHL definition of "tampering" means there is proof of tampering (email, memo, etc.). And such information would be the basis for investigation.

Andlauer called this "soft tampering" in that Brooks must have had (verbal) information/statement from someone in the organization, but it would be hard to prove.

Many Canadian and small market teams often have to shoot down "rumors", reassure players they aren't being discussed.

Insiders wonder about potential fireworks behind closed doors.

As much as those of us in Atlanta hope for news, I'd say the earliest we can expect to hear anything will be prior to the draft. Bettman said at the October meeting that he hopes to have a new CBA before the Cup final.

I think he wants to get ahead of the potentially massive increase that could occur when the current CBA ends. And I think the Players want to ensure that a more moderate rate of increase would mean very low to no escrow.

More from BOG including soft tampering charge. Andlauer most upset as he's owned the team for a year and organization has had to put out fires three times over his captain. They have never had discussions with any organization about trading him.

Bettman and the league wanted to get above the 5% for this season too. I’m not sure why you think this is a new position for him. The players said no because the league wanted more escrow withholding in exchange. They ended up agreeing to round up to $88m, so technically this year was slightly above a 5% increase (5.4%).
