Yeah this doesn't look like a short-term thing. I'd plan for him to be out a couple of months and see where things are at in January. All we can do is hope he gets himself right and comes back stronger than ever.

I think with this news, mixed with Boeser being out indefinitely, means the season needs to be seen as a write-off.

Keep the 1st rounder, give the kids more playing time and opportunity, but yeah. We aren't winning shit this season. I don't even think we're making the playoffs with our current roster.

What a disaster of a season. Feels like the complete opposite of past year. The fact that they're even 9-4-3 is due to a butter soft schedule.

I don't think it needs to be a write off per se. We might end up in a wild card spot instead of battling for our division but it could also mean a reverse of last year where instead of "coming back down to earth" after the all star break, we take off.

We don't know until the trade deadline where we're act in terms of the season.

Might be prudent to trade for a decent 4C upgrade just so everyone is bumped down a peg for the time Miller is out.

It's a hell of a lot better to have everything go wrong in October-November than to have it go wrong in March-April like it did last year.

This is, of course, assuming you can keep the thing on the rails well enough to allow everything to come together in April.

If I was betting, I'd guess we'll see him back December 6 against Columbus.

There are probably a number of ways to do this and accommodate time away (including IR, though not sure if there are cap reasons not to do that), but this really seems like a poor way to do it communication-wise.

You are basically feeding the beast here. I would hope there is a fairly compelling reason they decided to do it in this manner. It sounds like the injury is prohibitive enough you just could have said he was taking time to recover.

It's personal reasons. In other words it's none of the fans' and certainly not the hairlips in the media's f***ing business

Probably the first situation of real adversity for Tocchet and the Canucks since he joined the organization.

No Boeser, no Demko and now no Miller. And a blueline that's struggled since the start of the year.

This is the time when we find out if their 'systems play' can help the team weather the absences. But it might be struggle just to hang around the playoff bar until everyone is back.

Seems like not going on the 6 game road trip and being with his family might be enough for him to deal with whatever is going on, 6 games isn’t that bad in hindsight, some positive news I guess.

this team is awful at media management. if miller is injured just put him on ir and treat it like an injury. if it's player assistance program stuff put him in the program. if it's neither of those figure out a way to communicate it in a way that doesn't invite endless speculation

i realize the counterargument is that they're being respectful of the player's situation and their private life but they end up just throwing the player to the wolves when they do it this way

i wish him the best. i have been worried about since he started going controller disconnect without the puck. i was thinking he had a rib or back injury and has to pick his spots and straighten out when he can, but obviously it is something more.

Take personal time off, the entire toxic Vancouver media gets to speculate.

I hope JT does not even remotely get close to listening/reading any of the media

well that seems like a nice chunk of time to take off and spend with the fam.

again, no expectations for when he gets back, take as a long as you need.

How big of an idiot is Rick Dhali? Watch this video.

what exactly is unreasonable about rick here? don't gossip is pretty reasonable.

Take personal time off, the entire toxic Vancouver media gets to speculate.
most of the media have been circling the wagons around him and cleary have been given some insider context from the team to best accomplish that.

I don’t get why anyone is on Rick for that? He’s completely right. Media and fans are trying to find something juicy out of it, just relax and give the guy his space. Miller has been a stud for us and gives it his all, if he needs space respect that.

Odd season. Hope Miller gets over what's bothering him and he returns in good spirits, playing the game as he can. It's a pleasure watching games where's he's on that's for certain.

As we all know too well, some seasons go sideways and it sure looks like this one is aiming for the ditch. Yet it's not impossible to see who's still in the lineup at the moment buckle down and maintain a winning seasons. Adversity helps build the character needed to succeed (apparently?) and at least we can see they have it in spades this year.

If they can get another top four defender, I wouldn't be surprised to see the team win more than it loses moving forward.

Little bit at the end here on Miller. Nothing we don't already know.

  • Hasn’t physically right since the start of the season
  • His frustration level grew and that became difficult mentally
  • Needs a reset; needs to heal both physically and mentally
  • Canucks have been really supportive and stand behind behind

I think this should end the speculation (I mean no way it will end it… but it should).

He was clearly hurt, and is the type of player where his frustration probably just grew to the point where it was like take some time off… both physically and mentally. I think it was probably the team pushing him to make this type of call.

Also, great article in CA!

I wonder why the team doesn't just say that he's injured and want him to take his time to heal fully. There would be zero speculation in that case. Everyone can tell that he is injured. The concern is that the mental aspect is bad enough that it could be weeks so they couldn't just lean on the injury aspect?

It definitely does seem like an odd decision, though, to do it this way instead of just saying 'he's been playing hurt since the start of the season and we've just made the decision to shut him down for a few weeks to heal up'. As soon as the words 'personal reasons' are used for anything, it's like a bat signal for toxic fans to come out of the woodwork and act like total assholes.

My guess is the league has specific requirements for players on IR that they don't want Miller to have to deal with.
