Why does Chicago do this?

DeBrincat already 24.

Chicago going full rebuild (tank for Bedard/Michkov) and adding two assets closer in age centered around Dach.

DeBrincat keeps Chicago in mediocrity. Which is the worst recipe for success. (Hawks of all teams should know this. See 2004-2007 standings, then see 2010-2015 cup winners)

Rightly or wrongly the Hawks invested a hell of a lot of their future on Seth Jones who is 27. As a physically gifted and athletic defender he should have another 5 years of prime left. I don’t see the Hawks dealing their one core forward in DeBrincat who also fits into that timeline. I don’t think the Hawks are about to tear down to the studs. Maybe they should but my guess is they are going to attempt to rebuild quickly around Jones, DeBrincat, Dach and Reichel.

Chicago isn't going to tank, though. Nor would they out-tank Arizona.

Fair, but the Blackhawks will win nothing with that core barring a 2023 lottery win

Did you miss the Seth Jones acquisition and extension? The Hawks aren’t making personnel decisions based on age and “timeline.”

DeBrincat being 24 simply means that they’ll be leaning on him to produce for the duration of the Jones deal. They’ll certainly be looking to compete—whether or not that pans out is a different conversation.

Devils don’t need to get smaller. Debrincat obvs best player in the deal/asset do Chicago says no. But Holtz is not chop liver and 2022 draft is actually looking pretty loaded. No need for either team to do this at all

at least the value is fair - Holtz and top-ten pick plus Bahl,
but as noted above, DeBrincat is face of Hawks next core,
and Jones acquisition(s) indicate they're not thinking they're at start of long thorough rebuild

and re Devils, well this Ranger fan would be glad to see them punt away Holtz and another top-10 guy,
even tho DeBrincat might be a scary trigger man along side Hughes

But that isn't true. Chicago is not going full rebuild. A team going full rebuild doesn't make the move that it did for Jones.

You may think they should go full rebuild, but they aren't in fact doing this. So any trade proposal for a good young player like Debrincat would need to answer the question of why they'd choose to move to move him for futures, while acknowledging that they aren't acting like a rebuilding team.

DeBrincat could possibly be available. There have been reports from the Athletic Hawks beat that the Hawks brass doesn't view DeBrincat as worth much more than his current contract. Given that his QO is worth $9M, he could get moved.
