Players and coaches do not tank. This just beyond stupid. What if they finished dead last in 2023 and picked second?

We'll never know because they didn't finish last. They finished second to last and picked second to last. The team that finished last tanked much better than us including the example I gave above. I understand players and coaches don't tank, but GM's sure do and they control the roster.

Hawks have screwed up the tank 2 years in a row including the Bedard draft year. Only reason we got Bedard is because we got lucky with ping pong balls.

Hawks need to tank correctly and get the most chances possible at that #1 pick.

Lukes coaching record is going to follow him to his next interview, and every one after that. He's not going to intentionally lose games.

No doodoo Sherlock. GMs are the ones in charge of tanking.

Time to give up on a 19 year old point per game player for sure

I gotta stop coming to this board so much
He's not a pt per game player. He has played 82 games in the NHL and has 73 pts.
25+48.

He was supposed to be walking 40 goal scorer and push 60 a few times and he's been anything but that.

He has had about the first 82 games I would have expected but he's been more of an elite playmaker than elite goal scorer. He was supposed to be both.

For reference, Kaner was 21+51=72 in his first 82 games.

Bedard has been around what I expected for his first 82 points wise, but it has been more assists than goals and that has been surprising.

Wow that wouldve been quite the feat in just 1.25 seasons!

Your expectations were far too high. This is the NHL, not the AHL, or the CHL. He's shooting against the best goalies in the world, as an 18/19 year old lol

yes, just cause they got lucky with the ping balls doesn't negate that they royally screwed up the tank that year. Did I imagine them winning a game at the end of the year to finish with the 3rd best odds for #1 pick?

last year all the dummies were saying, it's no big deal taht we finished 2nd to last, we got the #1 pick the year before from the 3 spot. Let's just go do that again. Morons.

A successful tank is defined by one thing and one thing only, finishing dead last and assuring yourself the greatest odds of getting #1.

So yea, the Bedard draft year was a tremendous fail by the organization from a tanking perspective. And taht fail extended the next year when they couldn't do it again for Celebrini.

Next you're gonna tell me that the Bulls successfully tanked for Derek Rose the year they finished with less than 2% chance at the #1 pick but got super lucky with the ping pong balls.

I expected more than 25 goals after his first 82 games.

I would have guessed 32-37 if you asked me before game 1 last year…. So yeah, 25 with his shooting % pretty disappointing for various reasons.

That said I greatly underestimated his playmaking ability prior to see him on NHL ice so there is some good to offset the bad.

If he scored 73 pts I expected 35+ goals from him leading into last season.

He has virtually identical numbers to Kane through their first 82 games, and some in here are complaining about him. Never change HF Hawks.

Kid is on pace with the greatest American-born player to ever play the game, and a first ballot HoFer, and one of the best offensive talents of the last 30 years, and people are actually disappointed.

GTFO of here. Lol.

I thought they screwed up by not finishing dead last. There were opportunities to do that and the Hawks passed. I remember a game vs San Jose where San Jose gave the net to some kid making his NHL debut and Hawks responded with Marazek. That's what I'm talking about.

So in one post you say the Hawks' tank was hurt by starting Mrazek in a particular game. That decision was, is, and always will be the job of the coach. In another you say you know that coaches don't tank.

So what you're saying is that the GM should be overriding the coach's authority and deciding who starts in games? Because your argument makes no sense otherwise.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have Toews, Sharp, Havlat, Keith, Seabrook, etc. To help him.

This. It's like people forgot the talent Kane got to play with. Sure scoring was a bit lower in those days, but the overall talent was much better than this team. Hell Sharp would be the best talent he would play with on this current team.

If you want to be frank, Hawks won the lottery probably 3-4 years too early. Ideally Bedard would've been drafted to a team when guys like Nazar, Moore, Levshunov, Korchinski, etc were already getting their feet wet but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

This is if you don't think Michkov, Carlsson, and Fantelli were not as great of picks. It never was all about Bedard.

I said it all the time, the rebuild timeline would of been better off if they got Michkov, but i also didnt expect him to come over this year.

And some people with the player being ruined or expectations being off. Mario Lemeuix didn't make the playoffs for 6 years. That's a tank roster possible outcome.

Well aware, and precisely why I am such an advocate for Marner if given the option. Rantanen would be even better but I think that’s less likely to be on the table.

Bedard is dying for help and we can’t rely on any significant internal help for him this year and probably not even next year.

I don't think that's really relevant, though. They're performing at the same level, at the same stage of their careers, and Bedard is doing it with ZERO help. None. Could you imagine Bedard with Toews, Sharp, Hossa, Havlat, Keith, Seabs, etc.?

Which is really my biggest concern. Lack of a supporting cast for the guy which we talked about the other day.

We’d need basically the majority of our top forward prospects hit to maybe even sniff a similar cast for Bedard. Some of those guys are going to be total flops, too. Just look at Kirby.

I really hope we aren’t in season 4 or 5 of Bedard wondering what type of untapped potential he has because he’s still playing with guys like Donato and a disinterested looking TT.

On the other hand I’m not saying rebuild via UFA…. But I think one really big fish who is a proven guy is the way to go. Let him anchor the top line with Bedard for the next 7 years.

What about the Oilers and Sabers? 5 1st OVR draft selections between them not including McDavid. Aside from the Oilers getting insanely lucky and drafting the a player somewhere between Crosby and Lemieux level, Edmonton and Buffalo were and basically still are total loser organizations with terrible culture.

Believe it or not there's a huge difference between deconstructing a team to hopefully finish in the bottom 3, and having your team deliberately lose games for a freaking draft pick. No one would want to be a part of a team like that. I wouldn't want to watch a team that did that.

Bobby and others go off the deep end a little bit with their mentality towards tanking but he's right in the sense that you don't want to keep losing forever. Throwing games would be disgraceful
