Does it matter what people say in the twitter world. That package was thrown around at the draft by all the reporters. Who cares. Just shows what an idiot Gillis is. Listening to him speak is verbal diarrhea at it's best.

Paul Hendricks twitter account is the only credible source of information for Burke Nation.

Location: Toronto Hallway

I think Gillis wanted Huberdeau out of Florida before the season started, too. He must be on controlled substances

I sit here and ask my self what the hell has Gillis done in Van? Team is no better, he mishandles players. Hodgson and now Luongo. Guy is a fool, maybe him and Burke can scout together. :handclap:

Amen to that!

I'll admit I wanted Luongo in Toronto, for the sake of improving the team, but not at the expense of Kadri. Bozak + spare parts, sure. Gillis is a fool and if people in Vancouver believe they can get a King's ransom for Luongo then they're sipping the fool's kool-aid.

Not true. The only name that was mentioned during draft time as involved in a possible Luongo draft was Luke Schenn (reported by Elliote Friedman).

After that, it was during the lockout when Damien Cox and John Shannon reported a deal (or a 'done' deal in Shannon's case) surrounding Luongo and Bozak and a prospect.

Then the usual drivel of speculation became Bozak + Kadri. But it was much, much after the draft that people began throwing Kadri's name in the mix for a Luongo trade.

But it's fact that Cox said the Leafs refused to move Kadri for Luongo and now he's saying the opposite. Thus this is all meaningless speculation. You can't blame or commend the Leafs for something which might be entirely untrue.

But remember, Gillis is a GREAT GM and is totally responsible for how good Vancouver is. Even though all of their top 6-7 players were brought in by Burke or Nonis except for Hamhuis...

I think Gillis has done a really good job at getting Vancouvers players signed to cap friendly deals, and only the Luongo deal looks like it has the potential to backfire. But his trades so far? Not the best.

Gillis is one of the worst GMs in the league.

All the guy has done is rotate average players in-and-out of the line-up. He has to be the worst guy in the league at trading: the Ballard, Booth and Hodgson deals were all brutal.

His signings of Garrisson, Samuelsson and Malhotra haven't worked-out either.

Hamhuis also wanted to play there, so Gillis pretty much couldn't **** that up. I feel like if Vancouver had a competent GM they'd have had a Cup already.

A number of leaf fans wouldn't consider trading Kadri at the time...they are looking pretty good right now (I was part of the Kadri+Bozak group).

Turned out well for us.

Cannot resist, but quote myself from Lou thread:

Actually thinking about Halak example, Halak:

- was in the same situation as Lou is now.
- age was 25 (RFA)
- was not signed for decade
- was signed for much less
- no cap penalty
- actually put bad team on his back and got them into playoffs
- similar stats
- got Lars Eller and Ian Schultz in return

Based on all of above, I think good man Kadri is huge overpayment.
My hope would be Connolly + one of our middle D prospects/players.

It would take a journey to the bowels of hell to find the words i would say if that trade happened.

I don't buy for a second that the Leafs offered Kadri and Bozak for Luongo at any point.

There simply isn't enough organizational depth to sustain that kind of Center depth loss.

Vancouver has the worst GM. He wants that in return for Luongo ? lol. Then trades Cody Hodgson for Kassian...This dude seriously ruined any hope for that current roster to win a championship.

Everyone who even entertained that offer for more than a split second and did not hang up immediately should be fired. In fact anyone that contemplated that contract even for free should be fired!

Gillis is going to be fired very soon in my humble opinion. I agree his moves have been horrific. Decent with signings though.

This mess is all his own doing.

I think in the end Luongo stays and Schneider goes. There's just no market for Luongo. Look around the league..Crawford is lights out, Elliot can't stop a beach ball, Bernier is outperforming Quick and some no name signing Fasth steals the job from Hiller in Anaheim.

Goaltending is unpredictable and going long term on any of them is suicide. Most GMs know this. Gillis really should have played his hand differently in this situation. Take what you can get and look forward.

Teams are probably more willing to pay a steep price for Ben Bishop than they are for Roberto Luongo. Just the way it is.

A few months ago, Damien Cox tweeted this:

@DamoSpin
Bozak, Kadri and a second rounder? Wayyy too much for Luongo. And there's no other team willing to pay that price either.

And now he says the opposite? So which is it? Were the Leafs willing or unwilling to pay that for Luongo?

I don't think it's fair to criticize/not criticize Burke for this information because clearly its unreliable?

What Cox personally thinks Luongo is worth and whatever offer Burke made are 2 different things. I am glad Burke was fired even if he was only contemplating a trade for Luongo at any price. I don't want that contract for Scrivens straight up.

Check out the new cap recapture calculations on Luongo's contract in CapGeek. If the stars align and Luongo retires just before the last year of his contract (21/22), the teams (Vancouver and whoever has traded for him) could be hit with a combined one year cap penalty of $14.3M. Not likely to happen, but just that it's possible and the resultant uncertainty could derail prudent cap management. Imagine having to budget for a possibility of that much dead cap space in the NHL's hard cap system!! And just think that if the Canucks are unable to unload his contract, this problem is Vancouver's alone....as it is they are already on the hook for about half the problem. This is the main reason I hope the Leafs never have Luongo on their roster.

I swear the national media wanted Luongo on the Leafs more than Leafs management. Fortunately I think Nonis is smart enough not to be pressured into taking that ridiculous contract. Gillis should be shopping Schneider around.

Turned out well for us.

Go look at the threads from that time period. Everyone and their mother would have traded Kadri for Luongo. Anyone saying otherwise right now is being disingenuous.

I think the principal thing we've learnt is that goaltending success is more about having good goaltending + competent defense than just about the goaltender.

Reimer and Scrivens would have .890s if this were a Paul Maurice or Ron Wilson coached team (if they were indeed Maple Leafs at all still).
