How about this kid heating up over the last 5 games? 9 points including 7 goals and a huge game winner tonight in overtime to go along with a goal and assist earlier in the game. With his name being involved in the Meier rumors i dont see how the Devils would let this kid go, hes going to be a great player.

And he'll be an Islander in 2045 just like Parise is on his last legs.

He's Parise, not as shifty as Briere was. But I do think he'll be monstrous in the playoffs when time comes.
I will never get over Milbury not picking Parise. It was so obvious and he just f***ed it up.

Parise at 38 still plays like a puck hound with a high motor. Wish I could inject his game into some of the younger guys.

It was obvious for San Jose when they traded up, but they took Steve Bernier instead.

That was one of the best rounds ever.

The kid has a very unique stick handling and skating style. It’s choppy (in a good way) and very unpredictable. He has been a pain in the ass for Opposing players to defend.

I LOVE IT.

Could be 6-9 legit HOF players in that 1st round. Another couple hand fulls of all stars and my damn islanders managed to miss.

Also, one of my all time favorite none islander players was picked in the 2nd round. And he’s still a beast 20 years later. Patrice Bergeron

Between Burns, Bernier and Milan Michalek (played as a rookie), this is the first season the Sharks haven’t had a player on their roster from that round.

Bergeron is still ridiculously good. Something in the gene pool of that draft.

Yeah, I've been banging the Mercer reminds me of Parise drum for two seasons now. No real elite NHL skill other than motor and a knack for finding the puck, but when you've got that much of those they carry.

Not saying he'll ever peak as high as Parise did, but hey he's already got more NHL goals and points in his D+3 than Zach did, so who knows?

Not exactly a fair stat comparison as Parise didn't play in the NHL in his D+2 year due to the lockout (without which he certainly would've played there). Either way I just recently picked up Mercer in fantasy so I'm not complaining about this recent hot streak.

Love that he's on fire, we need some scoring. He's been kinda invisible for the last few weeks before this hot streak. Hopefully he's going to keep this up. Great personality.. reminds me of a combination of Blake Coleman, Adam Henrique, and a slower Zach Parise. Hope he's not headed to SJ.

Its great for him, but I have to imagine it takes them out of the running for Meier.

Grier isnt going to take a lesser guy and they arent going to trade him when hes red hot or incur the wrath of the fanbase.
Devils have the pieces to beat almost every offer without including Mercer, Nemec, and Luke.

It’s really just about if the Sharks any of the Devils prospects.

Looks like he wants to stay, lord knows us fans want him to stay. If San Jose won’t move off of him for Meier, let Meier go to another team. The Devils window is just starting, no need to trade high upside guys off the roster for an upgrade right now.

Save the picks and prospects for later and let these kids cook

Mercer is a great young player. He always had that tenacity, but I thought what would take his game to the next level would be adding a bit more of a shifty dynamic element. Instead he's gotten better by doubling down on his crash the net style and firing home greasy rebounds.

Regarding Meier - it would be unprecedented for a young ELC player the caliber of Dawson Mercer or Seth Jarvis to get moved for a rental, especially if SJ is unwilling to let teams negotiate an extension with Meier and his agent. They can ask as much as they want, but there is absolutely no basis for it.

Young high upside cost controlled guys*

Mercer as part of a Meier deal makes the Devils slightly better for a couple months but hampers them long term, especially if there is no Meier contract in place. It makes zero sense from a Devils perspective. Certainly don’t blame Grier for asking.
