Confirmed with Link: David Savard retirement after this season.

Be great if we can find a 25 years old version of Savard. Unfortunately we had one and let him go lol.

Wow I had heard a rumor about it too

Let's see what kind of run we can go on for the big fella lol

And I'm 1000% sure at the end of the Canes game when Nick was like 'OK Savvy wants to tell you guys something" I was sure that was for Savard to announce he was retiring after the run

But I think on the spot he was like 'nah, not gonna make this about me today, it's about us right now, I'll leak it later'

Happy for him and thank him for his good service last 4 years, mentoring the kids
But we also could NOT re-sign him lol, hopefully he joins the staff like Byron or something but I'm so happy they will 100% focus on getting a top4 RD now as well as a 2C

Only drag is maybe they don't trade Matheson in the offseason now ugh lol

Matheson is a very important part if this d-corp. Just play him 21-22 minutes per game instead of 26.

Good luck to him, he seems like he’s a nice guy, but it’s good news for the teams, he’s such a bad player, at least we won’t see him crawl on the ice anymore

Oh ya now that he's announced his retirement he's the best guy ever.Almost all of us had nothing good to say about him before.Sort of when someone dies and they say what a great guy he was after saying he was a no good prick when he was alive lol.
I don't think anybody said anything bad about him personally he's a warrior, leader amazing teammate by all accounts but he's cooked as a player we could see it, he could see it and I'm sure the management could see it

There is a lot of truth in this post. Still wish him the best in his retirement.

Not surprised by this announcement, he's dropped off a lot this year. Whatever speed he had, which wasn't a lot to begin with, is now gone.

He was a veteran that didn't mourn or bitch about the rebuild though. He wanted to stay & work through it. He was a great veteran presence for our youth on D helping out with both Guhle & Xhekaj.

They should definitely keep him around like they did Byron if he wants a career in hockey.

Congratulations on a great career, Savy.

My question is, is he retiring now or after the playoff? Cause if hes already feeling like hes struggling to play now he sure wont perform well in even more intense games in the playoff.

After the playoffs.

Sometimes it's going through the process of restarting a new season in September that you know you won't be able to do
