Guhle will probably be back in time for the start of the season and Savard is the other lock on the RD.

Has Reinbacher done enough to beat Barron for the last spot on the RD? Don’t think so. Probably start in the AHL with Mailloux and that’s fine for now. Obviously camp is far from over but he could use 20+ minutes playing in all situations and getting used to the NA ice a bit longer.
He did enough. But he’ll be better served playing 20 + minutes in Laval if he’s only on a 3rd pair this year with the habs.

Edited my message just before you replied lol. But yes I agree the time in Laval will be more benificial for his development.

I don't know, was he really the guy to draft. He seems ok but nothing special. Admittedly I haven't seen much of him and I'm trying to see what everybody else sees but i just don't. We passed on some good guys for him. I'd be more than happy if he pans out though of course. It's the only decision management has made that I'm iffy on.

He reminds me of a little of Sergachev when he started. A little of unsure of his surroundings but you can see the potential.

I can see what you mean in the broad sense of a D that obviously is a little "off" here or there, a little raw in his timing/confidence and that translates to a lesser performance on the ice that will eventually get better and lead to the blossoming of a very good defenseman.

You're 100% right when you talk about the common denominator of a high potential shared between the two.

But aside from that, I actually think Reinbacher and Sergachev are very stylistically different from each other.

Reinbacher relies on good puck placement, quick and simple decisions with the puck, and efficient passing to create counterplay and offense. He does most of his best work offensively with minimal possession time for himself, deferring to his teammates and just quickly connecting plays from defense-to-offense for them, making those around him better while shining a bit less himself offensively.

Whereas Sergachev as a D+2 and even now had/has a much more puck-dominant style based off of his elite-level puck-handling skills for a defenseman, where he can also transition the puck really well with his first pass, but he'll also hold on to the puck much longer and make higher-leverage but riskier plays with the puck on his stick.

Offensively, I'd say Sergachev from his D+2 definitely is the more skilled of the two compared to Reinbacher, with the much heavier and crisper arsenal of shots and better release too. Sergachev's offensive vision from his D+2 year, if I remember correctly, also seemed a little higher-end than Reinbacher's given what I saw of him in his D-1 in the OHL and the little glimpses he showed here and there at camp those two years post-draft.

Defensively I'd say Reinbacher is the smarter of the two, the best of the two at denying zone entries, and the more consistent when it comes to boxing-out opponents, applying pressure on the boards, and defending the high-danger scoring areas of the ice.

So yeah, I understand what you went for in your example but other than a certain common "rawness" to their games, that high upside you spoke of, and the fact that we drafted both with top-10 picks, I don't really see many parallels to be made between Sergachev and Reinbacher if we purely look at their playing styles.

There was some speculation here that he might have grown a bit purely from watching his olympics pre qualifers, but nothing official as far as I know. Best guess would be 6'4 though, not 6'5. We should find out soon enough at camp.
Be good to watch best on best for a change. Like to see McDavid play with Crosby, Bedard, etc... Been many years. Should never been stopped.

Those Canada Cups some fond memories growing up. Sittler scoring in overtime. Henderson has scored for Canada. Murphy the wheel man. Which was from Gretzky/Mario 3 on 1 in '87 Canada Cup. Coffey breaking up 2 on 1 in overtime then going down scoring against Trekiak. The '02 Olympics. Great hockey, great memories.

I would not be surprised if he is perceived as already above Barron and Mailloux in the depth chart.

He brings a much more mature and simple game than the other two.

This Reinbacher will be to Hutson what Malcolm Young was to Angus Young. For those who can't understand the reference, he will no doubt be in the shadow of Hutson but he will give Hutson the platform to shine at his maximum with what he brings to the game.

Sergachev played alot more games on a north america size before coming to the NHL. Reinbacher played his 13th game ever on NHL ice, it will take about 100 games of adaptation. Reinbacher will be way more superior than Sergachev in every aspect. When he will be paired with Guhle or Hutson he will be a monster and top 10 RD in the league if not better

There's no way Reinbacher produces offense like Sergachev but every other aspect he should be better.

Reinbacher will produce more offence than Sergachev did because his decision process seems to be higher to make a play and i've almost never seen Reinbacher miss a pass on the breakout.

Sergachev is overrated by alot of people who dont follow hockey much, he's a 3rd D on a championship team. his only good season was 60 pts when Hedman was injured is due to having full PP time and alot of his points came from just feeding kucherov and stamkos. Just like Bouchard. I'm very causious when evaluating D man, my thinking is does bouchard get 80 pts on a team like the Islanders? Will Sergachev make 60 pts with Utah? The answer is no

So tell me how Sergachev has offense while playing on a dynasty team all his career?

Reinbacher has done NOTHING yet to suggest he's going to produce more than Sergachev. People make it sound like it's easier to play on a top tier team for some reason, like they don't have to cover up for blunders, run a good PP or PK etc. Honestly if Reinbacher was a 3rd round pick you don't make such wild projections for him. He was decently good last night against an AHL team, he didn't kick anyone off of the current blueline at this point.

he's already our best option at RD after Savard

Beside some little mistakes, he was good tonight.

If guhle is out for the start of the season, i wonder if they will keep him instead of mailloux.

Man I feel like I'm watching a different player sometimes. He was solid defensively but a lot of mistakes handling the puck, some passes into skates, and a few unforced errors. Still seems pretty raw to me, and I still don't really see top pairing upside with him.

He'll be a good complement to Hutson though, that's for sure.

Nemec and Jiricek, two highly touted RD from the 2022 draft spent a bunch of time in the AHL. Reinbacher should be no different.

They will absolutely not keep him ahead of Mailloux. Why would they? What's the rush?

‘Cause he’s looking better than Mailloux rigth now.
Mailloux was the only Laval all star last year with 47 points in his rookie season.
Reinbacher played against a roster of AHL/ECHL players sprinkled with a couple of borderline NHL players. Last night was not a game to use to gage any prospect.
Mailloux has come to camp wanting to show his improvements on the D side. He will show more as the competition gets tighter. Both belong in the AHL.
