I don't think Arizona's lack of trading down denotes anything other than they knew that Michkov wouldn't want to play with them so they took their next BPA. Philly was likely okay with losing him because it was a good draft and him going earlier simply pushed down other talent to Philly's position, so it wasn't an all or nothing proposition.

I think it dispels the notion that Michkov is thought of as a generational superstar that some fans here love to parrot.

ARZ could have picked him and trade him after if his real value is way better than the ru D they picked.
A generational player is worth more than this D. This discussion gets nowhere. Each teams had their ranking and risk calculated. Who are we to say they were wrong. Or out of the 3 if we remove Bedard, Mich comes 4. How explain Carlsson, Fantilli and Smith? I'm not sure Smith will end up called generational talent, neither Fantilli or Carlsson.
True. That’s why the rank a huge majority had was #5

It's clear Michkov wanted to go to Philly. He met them in secret in Philadelphia when he arrived in the US. And met with them again right before the draft in Nashville.

He reportedlt didn't want to meet with Anaheim, who were contemplating making him their pick at 2nd.

He apparently also let Caps know he wasn't interested in going there. As well as Arizona. Caps were picking after Philly, but just in case Flyers didn't take him, he wouldn't want Washongton to take him.

He met with teams he was okay going to, but Philly was clearly his top spot.

The generational talent took an huge hit in the last posts. Seems that these little words lose their meaning.

Carlsson, Fantilli and Smith will become the new Sundin, Modano and Nash, Bedard an improved Yserman or Sakic, Same with Michkov except that hum-hum, Sakic and Yserman who were under 6 feet had a personality very special, very determined, disciplined. and an huge leadership. Something that Michkov seems to be the opposite.

So what a small size talented player without generational leadership ends up who at the end? The best ceiling possible is Gaborik, Bure or Theo Fleury. The worst is Zadina, Galchenyuk and Sherbak.

We have to think twice. Something similar in social media angryness happened with Zadina's pick.

The on-ice talent of Michkov is much more in ligne with Bure than Zadina, Galchenyuk and Sherbak though.

Bure is quoted as the fastest skater nhl ever had. This is a fact and not some fantasy idea. You have to agree with that, you have no choice bro, lol.
Michkov skate fast but not enough to distance his opponents. In now way Michkov skating comes close to the speed and foot explosion of the great Pavel B. In pure skating, Smith and Benson beats Michkov. Even Reinbacher skate faster than Michkov or they are equal. What I want to say is Michkov's impact on the ice will be where in nhl level? Create breakaways 4 times a game and score 80 g per season? Be a PP scorer? Maybe, ... but maybe also his ceiling drops everytime you re-analyse your projections when the social medias ppl called him generational talent.

Thanks as always brother!

I wouldn't be against becoming the new Red Wings, who were known for simmering guys in the AHL for years...

It worked quite well for them for a while...
That was before the salary cap era no? Their roster was STACKED.

Only a loser would want to go to Philadelphia. Glad we didn't pick him. Anaheim. Montreal, Arizona will all be contenders soon. Flyers will never be a contender.

It's more of a myth then anything. Guys like Zetterberg and Datsyuk even Franzen played 0 AHL, Larking played in the playoffs but had no regular season AHL games. Dandenault played 4 AHL games, Filppula played 1 season in the AHL.

Now yes there were guys who spent a long time in the AHL but Detroit didn't have some grand development plan for their prospects whereby prospects had to go through/spend time in the AHL with the thinking that it was the best for development. If a player was good enough to play in the NHL then they played in the NHL.

Let me know when Michkov's skating approaches anywhere close to Pavel Bure's. Crap we had Valerie Bure who could skate better than Michkov. So sure we like the talent and he does have some escapeability but slower moving targets are susceptible in the NHL. His dangle becomes less effective and he won't be cutting to the center of the ice quite as often as he'd like to. Emelin gave us a demonstration of what can happen.

Hughes building big heavy mobile defense. Bergevin started that back in '21 Cup run. Weber, Petry, Chiarot, those guys. He was continually on same page with Guhle, Mailloux, Wifi. Vegas has copied it. Gives a team more advantages makes them hard out in playoffs. They can shutdown smaller finesse players, move the puck well on zone exits and give second scoring from back end.

How did that work out for the Habs in the finals? They got completely dismantled and exposed by Tampa's skill and speed. It was brutal to watch.

He didn't know the nhl teams if he picked Philly himself. What a mistake for him. Lot of team are ahead of Philly and it's in the metro division. He will never rest, he will meet a lot of Emelins there.
Their entire internet content is 6 vhs tapes I think. Orange is one of the few colors you can still make out and this is how dreams are made.

Just saw this is the Reinbacher thread. Why are we poluting his thread talking about a Flyer?

It probably happened naturally but then everybody around the league started praising them for their development so it kinda became the Wings way...

Kind of how I seen it too. Hopefully that happens to the Habs and it appears like it will. Several prospects will be forced to overperform in the AHL and then the GM has to figure out how to find a spot for them on the NHL roster.

The young defensemen we have are speedy, good in transition and can give offense. Not the same position they were in before with their heavy defence that couldn’t skate or break the puck out of the zone.

Doesn't matter how good your D is if you're in the bottom half of offensive production in the league.

On another note
Even philly fans are reacting like * really bro? why? * From the reports Michkov wanted to only play there :laugh::laugh:

It makes sense. The metro is on the downswing. NYI, NYR, Pittsburgh, Washington and even Carolina are probably gonna be either bottom of the barrell or on their last legs by the time MM hits the road.

Not only that, but Philly is primed for competing if they keep sucking for a bit. MM, Gauthier, Foerster, Grans, Andrea, Farabee, Brink, York, four first in the next two years, the apparent package theyll get from Hart, probably Konecny?

And then comes in Brière who was a very similar player to MM himself.

I can imagine Michkov wanting Philly over Arizona, but he’s have been just as happy in Montreal. We didn’t pass on Michkov because of this, we passed on him because we didn’t have the access needed to get the full picture, scouts couldn’t watch him live, and simply chose Reinbacher over him. Hughes straight up said this. Whether this was smart or not has yet to be seen.
