Interesting how our HuGo regime that has done countless wonderful things in a gradual process to dig out of a very bad situation in terms of lack of quality hockey players, personnel and an inherited cap nightmare suddenly became stupid on Wednesday night. All because they chose a player they strongly believe will be a better long-term asset.Cult?
And you claim that I made personal attacks on the cockamamie quilt of disjuncted fables you concocted.
I’ve never once gone overboards about Michkov, my reply to your absurd post was the first time I took a firm position about him.
And in case you haven’t heard, word is that Michkov is attending the Flyers’ camp next summer and there’s a good chance he’s available to start his NHL career in 2024.
Enjoy culture and bashing Brière — you’re about to find out that Brière has been grossly underestimated.
Over 30 years without an elite level goal scorer and we go pass on him in favor of a D that Hughes said would not qualify to run a PP1. But …. culture!
Whether or not Mickhkov comes to NA next year has little bearing on my assessment of his projectability status. Any prospect in this draft other than Bedard is at least 2-3 years away from contributing in a meaningful and consistent manner anyway. We see every spring in the NHL playoffs that teams with small, average skating, one dimensional perimeter players usually don't fare well in the playoffs. Also prospects who begin the draft year at 1B in the rankings, slide throughout the season and then don't go until pick #7 usually means that others are developing at a higher rate than them. He has a lot of high end skill but he also has a lot of flaws and question marks.
Reinbacher is a very good prospect and now that people are calming down a bit, we are seeing a lot of reports from analysts, players, hockey execs that he might be a gem. Strong defense is a key ingredient to success in hockey and the Stanley Cup playoffs again proved this how teams with tall, mobile, puck moving D with high IQ can suffocate star offensive players.
Since arriving, Hughes and Gorton have shown that they are extremely thorough, diligent and calculated in all their decisions. With Bobrov having such intimate connection to Michkov's parent team, I have more faith in his knowledge of the kid from an everyday throughout the year perspective (good days and bad days) over a brand new GM and organization who got to know him in a weekend interview setting. As bad as Habs scouting has been throughout recent years, the Flyers have been even worse (the same staff Briere inherited).
At the end of the day, we won't know for another 5 years who got the better long-term asset. I'm all for good debate but I see it as childish for people to have meltdowns over a pick between several prospects on par with each other and digging their heels in with such certainty that they can't be wrong. I've been poking fun the last few weeks at these types with my "if we don't take Michkov..." drinking game post but I no idea some of these people would lose their shit as much as they did. The situation reminds of when Price got selected and the masses who wanted Brule had similar venomous tantrums. It's ignorant and obtuse for anyone in here (including myself) to think they know more than those who are close to the situation hence my head shaking at all the misguided rage. People get way too emotional and it has led to a lot of irrational thinking.
