Prospect Info: David Reinbacher - Laval Rocket edition

Just because he won't be a 80 point D in the league doesn't mean he can't be a difference maker. He's trending to be a bigger version of Toews in Colorado. Every contender needs a Reinbacher - Just like every contender needs a Hutson. Different player, different purpose, same value to a team.
Guhle isn't going to be an 80 point D-man either and Orville seems more complete at the same age than even Guhle was.

The Habs this season have 10 players with 80+ games played and 11 with Slaf at 79. I don't know if it's luck or if the medical staff is better at preventing injuries (though Armia probably played injured) and rehab, but if it's the latter, it bodes well for Reinbacher

He looks like a future top 15ish dman in the league, or an average 1D. With Hutson and Guhle, that's one hell of a big three

Moreover, with how Hutson plays at RD, it opens the door to acquiring a really good physical defensive LD to pair him with (ala Tanev), which is considerably easier to do than acquiring an puck-moving RD. That would be the defence of a contender

Yes, but I have a feeling they'll let Matheson contract runs its course, just like they did with Savard, before replacing him.

They wont do that. Savard is retiring and had very little value on the market. They wont lose Matheson for nothing, not Ken style. If hes not extended, I dont think he will, he will be trade at the deadline for sure if hes not at the draft

If Matheson is still with the Habs at the deadline next offseason (and he hasn’t been extended) and they are in a playoff spot I can’t see them trading Matheson at that point.

This is probably right. As much as everyone loves to hate on Matheson around here, it's also worth noting that he is paid less than 5M to play 20+ min a night. It would be very hard to find better for that price tag.

He's so good in transition, with his skating and vision. He still needs some polishing in his own zone though. I saw a few times last night he would take the wrong guy and drift to the wrong side but overall not very worried about it.

He's very smart so that stuff gets ironed out. Only playing a few games, very easy to make the wrong read and cover the wrong guy in terms of the systems coverage.

Matheson loves the group, loves playing in MontreaL, is willing to accept whatever role the team needs, and is currently paid like a 3D. Nothing wrong with a contender having ONE d-man in his mid-30s.

I can't put my hand in the fire for it, but I think there is a strong chance Matheson gets extended if we are a contending team.

He needs to learn the system. The man on man with position shifts is not easy to learn (vs a trap / zone system). Its the Tampa Bay system of play. It took the Habs players a half season to finally understand it.

That's why in a close game or one with the lead in the 3rd period, MSL will have to bench Demidov.

Hard to argue that it's not Kent's style given that his style is going to depend on where the team is in it's rebuild. During the tank portion for sure we wouldn't let a guy of Matheson's calibre go for nothing. But we aren't in the tank portion anymore, so if we are in the playoff race next year at the deadline I very much doubt we will trade Matheson for picks/prospects. If Matheson is getting traded it will be a hockey trade, and the time for that is usually the draft or early in the season.

He’s got a good chance to develop into a slightly better version of Guhle. Montreal is going to have one hell of a blueline in 3-4 years

His long reach..his very long stick...wowwww

I was watching the highlights and the camera angle was quite straight downward looking. I saw a player flying up the right wing and thought man hes flying....it was Reinbacher. I swear I thought it was a speedy winger.

Yeah when he get's going it almost similar to when Heiskanen takes off. Heiskanen's skating is a tad better though.

A slighty better version of Guhle, that's easily worth a 5th overall pick.

I think Guhle will put 35-45 pts per year and Reinbacher will put 45-55. I think Reinbacher show more offensive ability in this game.

I'm a big fan of Guhle and if Reinbacher become better, that's a hallejuah pick by Habs management.

Hutson, Guhle and Reinbacher?!?! That's a very very solid top 3 for many years to come. We should be all excited about that.

Wow...so many fantasies, so little time.

I watched all of Reinbacher game and not ONCE did he get to a net front battle, but suddenly he's going to be better then Guhle. He barely even made board contact on the first 8 games played.

He may be as good as Guhle, or may not, but all these declarations are amusing...
