Prospect Info: David Reinbacher - Get Well Soon Edition

I was at the game on Saturday. And Reinbacher looked real good live. He's steady, plays a simple game, uses his body well to separate players from the puck and uses his reach to angle a player from getting into the danger area. Him and Engstrom make a real good pairing.

Nothing exciting about his game. But in a hockey smart market like Montreal, his kind of game will be appreciated.

Great to hear.............in a couple of seasons, I think we are going to be a very happy crew with this pick.

I don,t agree. It's a concept of value of pick. I wasn't a fan of a pick, but I ALWAYS SAID FROM THE GET GO that I have no doubt David would be a serviceable NHL player. No doubt. But at 5 with a possible generational player available...you don't aim serviceable. That was my point. And it also comes down to BPA vs Needs. It's not nonsensical when we are actually constant in our opinion.

Frankly....turn this around....we all love Demidov right? We can't wait for him to get here and we are already calling him a steal and a potential 80-point player no? Well...what if I tell you that for need purposes we went Anton Silyaev, 'cause let say we were short on Left D and had a chance to pick a towering 6'7'' player? After seeing Silyaev play and liking his game...would you have said the same thing? 'Cause Silyaev might very well be a very good player in this league. I mean, maybe even better than David. But....Demidov???

Having said all of that, and I go back to my original point as far as David is concerned...we did get a very good player that will help us. No doubt.

Even if he becomes the less-than-hyped version of himself, Hutson is already going to be an elite #1D. Reinbacher just being able to hold down the fort at the same level as Guhle would give us an insane top 3.

Being +5 immediately after coming back from missing an entire season is remarkable even in the AHL.

Now that is nonsensical. People have a right to doubt a pick and prefer another player. There's nothing nonsensical about that. What's nonsensical are the two extremes. Either thinking HuGo can do no wrong or shitting on a 18 years old pick.

People went bonkers because we haven't had an offensive dynamo in decades and they wanted Michkov. It's entirely natural.

Some assumed he was a bust. Others like myself saw him in his debute in the AHL and were reassured by his performance.

Stating those two extremes is setting up a strawmen. I have personally been critical of several HuGo moves, where I had enough knowledge to evaluate.

I am not one of the two or three people on the boards that watched a lot of MHL and Swiss League play in 2023. So I didn't have a deep, expert -level opinion on the pick. But I was able to look up publicly available information. Reinbacher had an incredible performance in a men's league at age 17, better than Roman Josi did. He has a good NHL-level build, and he's projected to be the RHD on a first pairing. Sounds like a great choice at #5.
