Once again, if you want to ease him up put him on the 3rd pairing and decrease his ice time. I would understand that. But resting him is excessive. It's not a 3 in 3.

Brutal takes? Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean they are brutal.
Always good to agree to disagree..............most are thinking he should sit, 3 games in 4 nights is a tough one on a guy who has an injury issue he is coming back from.
The NHL will never become the NBA load management crap, ever.

The way I see it.

Reinbacher isn't a Struble or Farrell level prospect. He's arguably the second most important prospect in the organization, his eventual success is a precondition for this organization's eventual success over the next decade. It's legitimate for them to be cautious.

With respect to your alternative of resting him by playing him 12 minutes a game -- why? What for? Why not try and win the game? It's hard to add additional constraints on the coach.

Agree with the first part. I just have a different philosophy on this. Playing 12 min doesn't add constraints since he will play the minutes of the person replacing him today.
Because he is so important for the rebuild i want him to play as many games as possible.
If you are protecting him from injury maybe he should not have come back so early in the first place.

I agree that Reinbacher should play as many games as possible. That's sufficiently obvious that I think everybody agrees.

I do think that the best way to do that may conceivably involve breaks so as to minimize the risk of reinjury thereby playing fewer games.

Reinbacher just used muscles that he hasn't in a while. So he should get a complete rest.

If everything goes well he can play 20+ playoff games against the best AHL teams and win a championship.

Let's agree to disagree then.

3 games in 4 night after missing 4 months of activity is demanding on your body, I'm not risking another injury to my top defenceman prospect.

It's even been cited as his return to play protocol.

You can't go back into an activity after an injury like you never had that injury or prolonged period of time off. This is the right and responsible thing to do. Sufficient rest is required for recovery after not playing hockey at a high level for so long.

I think he might be the only person complaining about this.

It makes sense for him not to play as he just returned and he needs to get back in top game shape before he should play 4 games in 4 days

I have no issues with giving him a rest day, especially since they are taking a bus to Syracuse. Myself being tall and having had torn ligaments, its a bit rough being tightly seated in a bus for multiple hours. Your knee does not feel great after a long ride like that. As well, him missing a few odd games here and there will not be the end of the world. He just needs to stay healthy, have a good playoff run and then solid offseason of training and then I think he will be primed to break into the habs lineup.

I don't remember the Habs giving rest to Markov when he was coming back from his knee injuries. I am looking at game logs and he was playing back to back 22+ mins. He was older and his absence was longer than Reinbacher's.

Anyway, this better be a one off because if he starts sitting all back to back like some NBA players we would have a problem.

When Markov was playing, they didn't diagnose concussions and let fighters punch each other in the face after suffering a concussion in the fight they had two days ago.

Our medical science has come a long way.

Because concussions and knee injuries are the same thing?

Done with this. Hope he plays all remaining games.

The new medical staff has been pretty good since Gorton brought them in. Most players return early or on time. I'd trust them.

Good point. I think Reinbacher returned earlier than anticipated. I get wanting to get him into as many games as possible but with him returning ahead of schedule it probably makes sense not to play him 3 nights out of 4. I'm sure it's just precautionaty but it's not worth the risk, especially with playoffs still coming up.

You will play Reinbacher more then. Nothing will happen to him if he is fully healed from the injury.
He is not fully healed, easing into your routine is part of rehab, and the only way to get into game shape is to play games. He will need more rest than if he had not been injured.
