That or the following is a pretty good dcore.

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Mailloux/Matheson

It's one really good dman away from being elite. Hopefully we use assets like Mailloux, Matheson and Struble, Calgary 1st, our 1st, to add a stud RD - and a 2c. But both of those pieces are hard to trade for.
IMO, it's one way to look at it, but as was discussed a lot, early on, before everyone fell in love with Hutson at the NHL level, Guhle-Reinbacher could make an amazing shutdown pair.

We wouldn't need a superstar addition on D to play with Hutson, just a well-targeted partner with mobility and physicality, that can make a good first pass and play sold defense.

I wish we had kept Kovacevic, because a player like Hutson could have brought out the best in him, like Markov did with Komisarek.

I'm not sure Kovacevic has the speed and mobility to play with Hutson.

But if HuGo think he does, he should be available as s UFA this summer. It sounds like Jersey won't meet his salary asking price.

In hindsight, I totally agree. I think that pair would have been a good fit this year, but IMO management still did the right thing by leaving a potential spot for Reinbacher, Barron or Mailloux to win out of camp.

Obviously, with Reinbacher's early injury and Mailloux's progress slowing down this season (not to mention the lack of growth from Barron), it created a hole. This season wasn't supposed to be about making the playoffs, it was about the young players showing growth and pushing the team into the mix, and the young players need an opportunity to do that.

If we are agreeing that a line was crossed by guys direct messaging him with threats, and that this behavior should be called out, then I think there's no more to add from my end.

I'm not as interested in pinpointing exactly how much over the line it went.
So if I go and make a toxic post about Reinbacher on Twitter today I should expect full national coverage? Sweeeett

...if Reinbacher does come back healthy and is all he was hyped to be (200ft Dman), why not put him with Hutson??...have Guhle, who I believe will be a 200ft BEAST, with Mailloux (should the kid figure it out) and Jackeye & Carrier as the 3rd pairing... :dunno:

Because the season is lost anyway and Reinbacher will certainly be rusty.

I think we should embrace context and acknowledge the truth and not make sweeping generalizations about how Habs fans called Reinbacher Hitler and want him to kill himself

That means the behavior should be called out but also contextualized

Man, there are always a few stark raving mad nuts in every sack. The behavior of a few says nothing of the behavior of many. It should be a non-issue.

People tend to weaponize the behaviour of mad nuts (lunatics, morons, etc) to grandstand and make grand statements.

From one perspective, the actual worst thing that actually happened to Reino that night was Carey Price getting his name wrong.

I agree in general but I don't think that this is a great example of virtue signalling. People are not getting a lot of value out of it and virtually everybody has moved on. Most of the recent posts about it are about how there was too much virtue signalling, rather than actual virtue signalling. I just don't see a lot of weaponizing of bad behavior in here.

As for Price a part of me wondered if he's illiterate.

I think there’s a larger tendency among Habs and NHL fans to grandstand about issues big and small. With Habs fans in specific there’s a big tendency to scream loudly about how other Habs fans are just the worst. I find it unnecessary and honestly insulting.

I’m already a little too old to be so into the Habs, I don’t want my fandom to constantly be associated with the antisocial identity that other Habs fans keep magnifying and insisting is representative of this. Most other fanbase tend to suppress or ignore or even deny their crappy elements — Boston fans don’t get off on calling themselves racist, Philadelphia fans don’t get off on calling themselves violent… I’m not sure how it benefits Montreal fans when we’re constantly smeared by our own fellow fans. In fact, it ticks me off!

We have great fans. We have loyal, respectful, knowledgeable fans. We are religious about the Habs. Even with the case of Reinbacher, the crazies are irrelevant and not worth mentioning. And I’m definitely opposed to apologizing for or accepting responsibility for their misbehaviour.

Can't bother skimming though the last few pages, so can anyone tell me where David is in his rehab? Is he any close to joining Laval?
It was reported earlier that he was practicing in a regular jersey which means his return is imminent. Probably needs a few full practices before getting ice time. Apparently a lot of games are coming up soon. One poster suggested he would return after than intense period. But who knows. It looks like it should be soon, and I for one, am stoked!

What makes you think that?

Absolutely, it should be called out. We have to maintain a standard of what is acceptable in society, and my hope one day is that we converse online in a similar respect to the way we would converse in person. Furthermore, there ought to be consequences for people who utter threats regardless of the medium chosen.
