How are we wasting prime years of our core when our core has not even hit their stride yet??

What generational talent was up for grabs with our pick that we passed on?

What does flavour of the week even mean?
He has probably talking about the great Michkov.

Do you think Laine was enough or do you need me to list the great talent we have on the 3rd line?

Suzuki, Cole, Guhle, Newhook, heck even Slaf are all pretty much primed. Players don't peak at 29, they peak at ~24. At 29 well have 2-3 years before they're yet another Gallagher we wish we didn't resign.
LOL bro I was with you up to here, but come one now, Slaf is far from primed. He's 20 ffs, and one of those guys who has to learn to use his huge build.

I'm not even a huge fan and he's far from generational, but we clearly haven't seen the best of him

He's coming into his own much faster than the average Hughonite will have you believe.

When I looked at Dach's hit it looked like nothing. I was shocked it was an 80 game injury...
Dach got dragged the entire length of the bench on his back/rear by Tinordi, with his entire body + equipment weight hinged on his knee perpendicularly to the way it bends. It was horrendous.

Guhle is definitely not a 2nd pair D and you're being incredibly down on Reinbacher for no reason.
Oh my goodness, yes: Guhle is barely a second-pairing defenseman now, even if he plays the minutes of a first pairing defenseman and looks terrible doing it.

Reinbacher has never shown me anything in his performance overall or his play that makes me the least bit enthusiastic about him. With his current injury, I'm certain that he'll have wasted both his D+1 and D+2 years by underperforming terribly and then losing an entire season of development when he was already a player with no standout skills or abilities.

Ouch.

Please stop telling it like it is.

It hurts.

Cole can't score like he used to, he isn't that scoring dynamo we remember (for now)
Newhook kinda sucks (for now)
Slaf is not near his peak
Suzuki is good and he's the type of player who should remain quite good for a long time.

If what you're saying is true, then it's too bad, because our core just isn't good enough yet.

Dach said the injury was his own fault. He mentioned something to the extent that he was further away from the boards than he thought.

I suppose that means he would have braced for impact differently had he known exactly where he was in relation to the boards.

I really hate posts that just make lists where every point is basically as negative as it can be about our players.

I don’t want to be as depressed as these posts make life seem.

I agree, but I am countering someone who is almost trying (or is trying) to make it seem like we need to go IN now and our window is now open and the clock is ticking.

The reality is... we are not ready at all.

Yeah....

Bustbacher should have just ate the hit, fell on his ass, and carried on.

Instead he tried to land on his foot after getting hit.

Yeah I mean the team should have been taking a positive step this year but Demidov and Reinbacher are meant to be part of the stars that we would compete with.

Dach’s return is big, as is Laine’s addition.

We’ll see what a hopefully full season of each of the young guys this year is like.

I'm also waiting until Demidov comes over to really get in the 'Let's Win Now' mode.

Yeah he got dragged but it still didn’t look like anything that would lead to what it did. I still don’t see where he managed to hurt his leg on that one. It was really weird.

It wasn’t weird at all. A shear force resulting from the collision of two 220+ lb men was applied for an extended period of time perpendicularly to his knee, which was essentially acting as the hinge/fulcrum between their two bodies. I don’t know how you could think that’s nothing, unless you think knees are supposed to bend sideways.

Ready for what? Contending? Of course not. But so what?

I don't mind all that, but he was alluding to the fact that our core is peaking right now..

We haven't even begun to peak

@Lafleurs Guy if the out of town thread gets to remain an oversaturated Michkov fan club;

Surely you'd consider doing more on a thread actually dedicated to our prospect?

Because if you're gonna take such a hard stance on the obvious over exposure in one thread to that particular player and the whole reason even the mundane they accomplish is brought up, we should provide stricter rules here?

Using a freak knee injury to the player to talk about how they shouldn't have been picked? Using an injury to being up "BPA" which we know is the thinnest veiled way to try to bring Michkov into this discussion? Using terms like Bustbacher and other general terms of disrespect toward a nice 19 year old kid who has already been cyber bullied on draft night, by many of the people who complained they get backlash about posting clips of Michkov skating to the bench in the out of town thread?

Like always it seems a concerted effort on the boards part to protect the actual toxic behavior on the board rather than stop it. Honestly, putting your foot down on posts calling out toxic and obsessive behavior is being deemed worse than the cess pool of this thread? The discourse around Reinbacher since he was drafted? The same cast of characters who did it against Slafkovsky too?

Lets really think this through and determine what needs to be shut down first.

It's not about winning the cup now, it's about moving into the competing window. Making noise in the NHL instead of being yet another cave dwelling team.

Cole is, by my account, a pretty flawed 2nd liner but he is still a 2nd liner. That is still overall, a good player.

Newhook is a good 3rd liner, that is still a good player.

That's fair, and tbh I don't disagree,

The thing that's always in the back of my mind though..

If we're gonna miss the playoffs and/or get bounced in round 1 almost surely, maybe we're better off to tank a bit more.... to ensure a better draft position.

I'm well aware this is like an addict begging for 'one more' - just one more tank... one more.. last one I promise, lol.

Ultimately, if the team was rolling, playing well, racking up points, of course I'd be excited and rooting for em.

I guess where I have difficulty is.. we need that to happen organically, and not by infusing XYZ UFA or trading or XYZ veteran and derailing our rebuild, which luckily we know Hughes/Gorton will not do.

So, if we play good and get points, I'm in, but I won't sit here and wish for it, especially because I can also see the value of 2025 draft with all our 1st rounders, and Demidov coming over next year!

With Reinbacher it wasn’t a freak knee injury or was it a dime a dozen body check that anyone should’ve been able to take

Some people complain, others complain about the complainers, there’s no real difference. Everyone is a whiner.

Seems like something you should PM him about, instead of, in a round about way, essentially trying to 'tell' a moderator how to do his job, in a public forum no less for all board members to see. Very classy.

FYI, what you personally deem as 'unacceptable' is a matter of personal opinion, not fact - which I guess is why you're trying to sway the mods on this, and you likely want others to jump in as well which is exactly why you posted this here and not in a PM.

FWIW, you're concerned about 'toxic' items, yet this is perhaps the most manipulative and conniving post I've seen on this entire site.
