Yes, exactly. We have a certain poster here who is the same way with our marginal prospects--he claims they'll all fail, and then when they do, he jerks himself off in front of everyone while talking about how he's always right, never wrong. I guess if your "goal" in posting here is to be "right", then being negative all the time is the way to go.

Yes, that's exactly who comes to mind when describing the others in this thread ;)

Good advice. Thank you.

The reality is that you can choose “fail” as your default answer and have a pretty good final score.

That’s not really a challenge.

The challenge is trying to identify the winners, before they become winners. Or trying to determine just where in the “middle” they might land.

Friedman said Drury and Quinn talk 2-3 times a week when he was at BU

Gotta wonder if they were planting those seeds a while back in the hopes to hire him this summer

Edit: by a while back I mean towards the end of the season when it was clear they were gonna fire AV

They probably started chatting around the time the Rangers Management sent the sorry y'all, but this team is whack AF email.

The funniest thing is gonna be when Quinn makes Shattenkirk an alternate captain and half the board turns on him immediately after.

This is gonna be such a fun year to post on HF.
I'll actually give this place the benefit of the doubt. This place took years to turn on AV and only bc the team wasn't able to cover up for his idiocy any longer with good leadership, speed and skill.

If this place turns on Quinn quickly it'll either be bc
A) He deserves it like Eakins did
B) They were already negative about him like Kovalev

I seemed to have missed your answer here. What were the many other times the Rangers overpaid for a no name coach that didn't turn out?

I don’t recall ever saying we’ve overpaid coaches before. So not sure where you got that from.

I said as an organization we’ve screwed up a ton which is why we have 2 cups in75 years. So doubting moves like these shouldn’t be looked at as crazy here. There should be a healthy dose of skepticism not just personal attacks because a poster doesn’t squeal with delite at every move.

Gorton has very few Feathers in his cap thus far here. He’s got a lot to prove as does Quinn. Saying so shouldn’t be met with horror.

And on the prospects really? I praise as much as I critique. But some choose to just see red and cry about it. Very immature takes.

I am just trying to understand why certain people seem to criticize Quinn for apparently no reason. The whole "He's in it for the money, he doesn't want to be here, he is overpaid" etc nonsense to me points to dislike based on something else.

Every time some criticizes a guy you think it’s because of bigotry. Now it’s boston? Lol. Enough already with that

And for what it’s worth I posted one thought about the conference what Thursday night? Then spent all day yesterday off the boards on vacation. 4 or 5 pages later half of you are still crying about it?

Who really needs to check themselves here?

I honestly don’t know why you guys are gonna watch next season. We have a mercenary for a coach, a culture of players and management who all reside from the same geographical location, a puppet of a GM who’s strings are really pulled by that old guy who likes to smoke cigars and go fishing, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say I’m gonna watch the upcoming draft then boycott next season until the 2019 draft where I’m sure we’ll be a lottery team again. #NotMyCoach #Resist :sarcasm:

This was a rollercoaster of a post. Wew.

Because every other reason that could be behind the criticism has already been disproved. It's based on absolutely nothing. Talking about precedent while comparing him to AV who was not even close th being in the same situation, saying he is overpaid, saying he is only in it for the money, saying the press conference was "low energy". My god, I wonder what the next thing will be. His hairline?

I am seriously trying to understand why certain people can only see the negatives in this, and I know in the past, certain Rangers have been criticized for their Boston-affiliation. Hayes being called a traitor for wearing a Patriots jersey while watching the Superbowl for instance. That's why I brought it up. FYI: THAT'S precedent!

The more I read about Quinn the more I like

Maybe I’m alone on that
Nah. I think a lot of people are with you on this.

Been reading and listening to interviews a lot lately. Among those, Blueshirt Banter/Blueshirts Breakaway each had an interview with Jake Reiser, who had a lot of great things to say about Quinn, while also mentioning some drawbacks and that who his assistants will be is key.

Garden Faithful had Buccigross on for an interview about Quinn. While I'm not a huge fan of Buccigross, he was a huge fan of this move for the Rangers.

More often than not, reviews from outside the NYR-sphere have been positive about the hire.

That's usually what I care about more. How does the rest of the league see this...

There are nearly infinite gradations of reasonable reactions between squealing with delight and complaining about energy levels during press conferences and basic negotiations

What’s it about? Above all, it’s an emphasis on fast-forwarding player development. The greatest hockey league in the world increasingly is force-feeding young kids into the lineup, many of whom aren’t fully ready for prime time. Quinn, Montgomery, and Hakstol come fully versed in molding wide-eyed newbies into competent, trustworthy varsity contributors.

“No. 1, I think it’s really important to have somebody that can do it,” said Rangers GM Jeff Gorton, reached by telephone after Quinn’s news conference, “that believes in it, has a good track record of it, can really communicate it . . . and understands what we needed to do. At the end of the day, David to me, and to the group of us who make those decisions, was an obvious choice.”

Now Quinn, a first-round pick of the North Stars when he arrived on the BU campus in September 1984, brings his act to Broadway. Gorton purged the Rangers’ roster with a series of trades in February, and Thursday he formally handed the raw clay to Quinn in hopes of kickstarting a franchise turnaround.

“You’re putting such young kids on your team now,” said Gorton, the former assistant GM of the Bruins, “and really, it’s impossible to think that’s a finished product. So it’s what you can get out of them once you get them, and keep getting them better till you get them in their prime. And that’s the key. You can get all these talented kids in the world, age 18 and 19, but if you can’t make ’em better, then shame on you, I guess.”

I agree, but I liked AV before I saw it on the ice, so I wanna see it on the ice before I judge.
I remember when Torts came in... wouldn't let anyone step on the logo in the dressing room. Stern. Strict. Discipline. Ran some rough practices... bag skates. The conditioning was exemplary.

Eventually Torts ran his course (& his mouth) and the team needed to be freed up a bit, especially offensively.

Enter AV. The first season, they go to the finals... yeah maybe they could've defended better and won. Maybe the refs could've ALLOWED Hank to make saves without people in his crease and things might have gone differently.

AV wears out his welcome with his impossible defensive system, player usage issues, his hands off approach & his inability to adapt along w his reluctance to bring along the youth.

Enter Quinn.

Talking about practice, work ethic, conditioning, creating relationships with players young and old, analytics and puck possession.

Evolution.
