Pastrnak or Matthews

Every year there is a guy who unexpectedly steps up, this year it' Pasternak. This is just a byproduct of that series and how poorly the Leafs are playing. Throw Pasternak into the Vegas/LA series and see how his stats look.

there is nothing unexpected about Pastrnak

his analytics for the last 2 season = top 5 u23 player

anybody surprised by him leading the playoffs understandably has not looked into it

I'm getting the sense that people think Pastrnak's explosion is like Barzal's this year. That can't be further from the truth and this poll should probably have been made to counter that

I' not suggesting that he' not a good player, but playing with Marchand and Bergeron is gonna give him a lot of space and opportunity.

how is it stupid?

its comparing 2 ppg forwards. i fail to understand why leafs fans get so defensive when their players are compared to others
its stupid because we all know the answer is obvious and 2 games isn't gonna change that. also i can't speak on behalf of leaf fans, but for me, i get defensive because the comparisons are completely unfair. matthews puts up a ppg average with 79 percent of his points at even strength while pasta does it with only 68 percent (ie matthews is a better even strength producer) doing so with two lesser linemates. bergeron > nylander and marchand >> hyman. another thing, matthews is better defensively than pasta but apparently that doesn't matter because people just look at the stats. sure matthews is getting dominated by bergeron but the matthews line is inferior as i previously said, so its ought to happen.

so there is a discussion to be had then...

and when i say two ppg forwards i dont mean the 2 playoff games, I mean the past season as a whole

its fine if you think one players is better than the other and maybe numbers even support that but this is far from a stupid comparison

yes i know you mean the past whole season. when i referred to the 2 playoff games, i was implying that the discrepancy wouldn't be as small if it weren't for those two games

Pastrnak plays on a great line.

Matthews is a great line.

Pastrnak is a big part of the reason they are so productive offensively.

He fits so perfectly into the cycle game and finishes when he gets his opportunities. He's not elite defensively but it's come a long way for a 21 year old player.

Guys like Reilly Smith, Brett Connolly, and even Tyler Seguin weren't able to do what he was able to accomplish on that line.

This poll is not a fair comparison for Pastrnak.

Don't disagree with anything here. Pastrnak is unquestionably an elite forward.

But it must be acknowledged that he's in a great situation whereas Matthews is a great situation for other players.

For sure, I find player comparisons work better when the players play the same position. Centers and wingers are hardly comparable positions in terms of value to a team.

Even if Matthews doesn't outproduce Pasta on the score-sheet he'll still be the more valuable player overall and nothing a winger does can change that.

The one point I'll make in Pasta's favor is that his ceiling might be a bit higher than a lot of people give him credit for. He might have a 90-100 point season in him if things go his way.

Pastrnac AINEC.

Glassews has disappeared, kid doesn't have the heart like the Czech warrior (heard his parents single handedly brought down the communist regime there) Pasta!

Glassews would rather be golfing or tanning in the dessert or eating sunflower seeds. Pasta is just pure animal unleashed.

Source: last two games

Hopefully Glassews retires and calls it a career, dude busted so hard. Pasta already broke Gretzky's playoff record, so it wouldn't surprise me if he hits 300 points next year and breaks Gretzky's point record in the next decade.

Pasta is amazing but it’s Matthews and it’s not a hard choice to make. Dumb poll.

Imagine what Matthews could do riding with Marchand and Bergeron

I think Matthews is overrated.

But I still pick him.

Pastrnak is great, but like Rantanen with Mackinnon is more of a young star that benefits from the line he's on.

Centres who carry there line like Matthews are put in that position because they are better then most Wingers.

This poll is just another way to kick Leaf Fans when there down./

Not that I'm complaining seeing as most of them just love doing that to our team most of the time.

Pastarnak easily. Matthews is a floater. Hes been invisible these playoffs same with last. Leafs will never get past the first or second round with Matthews as their best player hes invisible and bad defensively

Honestly, I'd have to take Matthews.

40 goals as a 19 year old rookie?

Come on now. That being said, Pastrnak is a stud and I wouldn't trade him for many players in the league, especially considering his contract now.
