I think Columbus would be nuts to trade him but he's not playing anywhere. Just sitting in press boxes in the NHL watching Jack Johnson play.

Oilers offer Matt Savoie and our 1st.

We got a spot for you David!

Damn thats rough
if he got beat out by any d-man under 30....... then so be it

but soon to be 38 year old slow as frank Jack Johnson........ ooofffff

Would gladly give up any prospect not Perrault, and a NYR 1st for Jiricek. Safe, calculated gamble.

He can play behind Fox and Schneider, and learn from one of the better RHD in the world .

Doesn't seem to be any reason to panic trade him for a lesser asset. He's a huge, toolsy RHD who is still 20 years-old. That's almost the prototype for "be patient and under no circumstance, trade this player during their uneven early development phase".

So unless there is actually some bridges burnt - why?

Simon Edvinsson was drafted the year prior at the same 6th overall spot and spent last season (the equivalent to Jiricek's THIS season) in the AHL with just 16 NHL appearances - and nobody was freaking out over him "taking too long" to develop. And fast-forward to this year - and he looks like an absolute unit in the NHL.

I'm not saying that guarantees anything for Jiricek but it seems a pretty timely reminder that you DO NOT liquidate big, 20 year-old blueliners with his tools.
I agree, and so do plenty of other HFCBJ folks, but we're not exactly a unified front on this one. :dunno:

There's some folks who are unshakably convinced bridges were burnt last year and will hear no arguments to the contrary.

That's the type of deal that probably doesn't make sense for the CBJ. Need a similar prospect back.

Pronger ? Yeah I don’t think he’s got that ceiling
when the Blues traded Shanahan for him he was 19 and sucked. the point is you're taking a more established rugged scoring forward and sending him off for a recent draft top 5 defenseman who does not look like one yet. if Jiricek's potential ceiling isn't strong 1D with a big risk involved then the Blues in no way should trade Neighbours for him

I’d do Neighbors for Jiricek, from the STL side, sure. Even if Jake is a very unique breed of power forward STL doesn’t have a replacement for at the moment.

And there are others of us who believe he has a bright future, would like to keep him, but would at least be willing to listen on offers if a strong piece is coming back in the return. I don't believe anything has been damaged beyond repair, especially with a new GM and new coach in charge.

For the record, there's been 0 indication that he's currently unhappy or wants out. When interviewed earlier this season he was asked about it and said that he needed to earn everything.

When asked about it Coach Vogelhuber (Cleveland coach) said that it's way too early to start judging him and his play, defenseman usually take 300+ games to find their place and Jiricek has played about half that, and that anyone should wait another 150+ games before they really start to label him.

When look at him play, it's pretty clear that he needs to gain some strength throughout his frame and he needs more confidence in his own abilities. Maybe they want to make sure he's following a strict workout/nutrition regiment so that he can start to build some of that strength and hopeful work on his skating as well.

I will never in a million years understand Jack Johnson playing over a promising prospect, bad training camp or not.
Gudbranson is still out right?

I just, I just don’t get it. Never will.

Because he's not ready. He's not a good skater, he's not strong on his skates. And they want him to be a quality defender and not just an offensive weapon. They want him to be a well-rounded top pairing D. He should be playing in Cleveland. But the new trend seems to be watching a players payload/snap count while working with them in the weight room.

We haven't been told this but it's the only thing that makes sense.

I disagree
Literally any other defenseman then sure.

You know what Jack Johnson is, this guy is hanging on for dear life in todays NHL. It has passed him by, he is purely a locker room presence at this point trying to get every last dollar before his retirement

That doesn't automatically make Jiricek the better option. This isn't about what's best the for CBJ today, it's about what's best for Jiriceks develop regardless of what's going on with the team, a team that was expecting to be a bottom dweller.

Obviously Evason knows what he is doing and has a better clue of what to do with him than anyone here. I'm not worried.
