CLB: Drysdale + 3rd
PHL: Jirichek
Or
CLB: Grans + worse of Flyers 3 1st rd picks
PHL: Jirichek

CLB replaces Jirichek with a young RHD that also has a high ceiling plus a pick.
Flyers get a young RHD with different physical tools (6’3” vs 5’11”) than their 3 best d prospects (York, Drysdale, Andrae ).
The opinions of Drysdale I'm seeing on HFFlyers has me thinking I don't want to be anywhere near there.

drysdale needs more time to develop and learn to he game . Seems similar to Jiricek situation but I get your point

the jiricek situation isn't just a "he needs more time to develop" thing – it's a "the blue jackets don't want to develop defensemen in the NHL" thing. which would rule out a drysdale swap. they also have a deep prospect pool and are trending toward having another high draft pick.

the framework for a jiricek deal is not "struggling young player swap" or "lesser prospect + spare parts" – it's "jiricek to a team that needs RHD for a quality young player" or "jiricek in a package for a star"

for the flyers, that means jiricek+ for konecny

The whole situation is bizarre to me. I am glad he'll be in the AHL. Will laugh my ass off if I found out he's on the third pair though.lol

And unless the additions are worth while, that’s a bad base.

Guhle is worth a lot more
I will readily concede that he is further along in his development and thus showing much more, as one would expect given his two year head start, and that many teams would fairly perceive that as a significant advantage. As to what that makes them ultimately worth compared to one another in a given deal, though, that depends on the perspectives and statuses of the teams in the deal in question. All trades are needs-based, after all.

Considering how much Drysdale's value has tanked Philly would have to include another prospect in addition to a 2nd round pick to get Jiricek and even then I think most would rather do a 1 for 1 type trade of even value.

Even with Drysale + 2nd round pick + Prospect for Jiricek I think Drysdale is gonna eventually bust sadly, the 2nd round pick has a low chance of becoming an impact player and the prospect added probably is a middle six/2nd pair type prospect. I would rather see how Jiricek develops than a big gamble on those 3 pieces in a trade.

Then you enter "why would Columbus do this" territory...and convo dies there

if he is trying to build muscle, I would hope they play him sparingly. Tearing muscle fiber and building new muscle isn't something I would imagine fits into a NHL season schedule. I know having him up here cost the team more money and it would be cheaper to send him down and he can do the same routine down there....but the team is under the salary cap floor and it gives Jiricek a lot more money.

I don't see why anyone involved would be upset. And the more time he can spend around the team & coaches the better. Only people who seem upset are fans of other teams and those shocked he isn't a 1st pairing dman with a .75 ppg
He’s simply not ready yet. That’s not a knock on him. He needs to be playing in the AHL. He’s still just a kid. Sending him down was the right move, if they intend to keep him. If he goes down there and sulks, then they’ve got a pretty big problem on their hands.

We’ll see how this whole thing shakes out, but something had to change before the season was wasted, and his value and development starts taking a hit. Waddell knows that. He’s a good manager who places development very highly on his list.

What’s stupid is, if he would’ve started the year in Cleveland, and been playing those hard minutes every night, he’d be that much closer to playing Top 4 minutes in the NHL. It’s not like he needed 2 more years down there. He’s within reach. Just has to clean a lot of the basics up. Hopefully he doesn’t go down and just concentrate on putting up points.

The NHL is still a black and white league. You can either play certain roles at the NHL level, or you can’t. Right now, he can’t do it consistently enough. Not to the extent he’s going to have to. That’s usually 20-50 more games in the AHL.

Who knows. Maybe the entire issue is, he really would just rather play somewhere else. I’d be angry if I were Columbus, and he goes to another team, and ends up playing a big chunk of the season in the AHL, without a chirp.

He’s gotta go down there and be 100% committed to growing his overall game. He’ll be back in Columbus soon enough. Likely a much better, more confident player.

Reading the other (new) thread and this one. One thing seems to be forgotten in all this and was the thing I was trying to point out. In another thread (from 2018) people were talking about the difference between AHL salary & NHL salary when called up. The difference was 66k in the AHL and 666k in the NHL.

It's nice to think these guys love the game, wanna prove themselves and what-not. But if that's me ... and the difference is a few hundred dollars and a few thousand per game ... even if it's just working out ...

@Petes2424 He was sent down, and a beat reporter is un-official reporting that Waddell is taking offers. Back to making middle class money I guess. Some of the condos downtown Columbus are a fortune. Not sure 66k will cover it, but I'm sure the team will call him back up again.

Steals the puck and gets down the ice to score the OT winner for Cleveland over the Admirals today. The problem is he isn’t ready to do that in the NHL yet.

Whats the latest update on Jirichek? Will he be seeing a Game with the Minnesota Wild soon or Iowa Wild?

We haven't heard much. He's with the Minnesota Wild right now but it's probably more for orientation purposes. Getting used to the organization, learning the systems, familiarizing with the staff, the coaches seeing where he's at and what he needs to work on, that kind of stuff. We don't know if he'll get in a game in Minnesota before going to Iowa or what. It's been pretty quiet.

Practicing with the NHL team for now as they get him integrated into the system and up to game speed. No clear time frame but they’ve been rotating him with the bottom pair in practice, probably a little bit away from game time, but I think they will give him a chance to see where he is at once comfortable.
