Rossi would be the most obvious guess from Wild and Sabres have plenty of options that fit the description but who would be the young Pens player helping us immediately? Mateychuk's cousin Pickering is up with the big club but is he playing that well already?

I wouldn't say untouchable, but Helenius made Savoie tradable and makes Ostlund available, Sabres have two prospects in the system that play power forward - Wahlberg and Poltapov (probably will never sign), and Kulich is probably taking Quinn's spot on the roster before new years.
It's more of a positional statement.
I like Komorov and given RHD dept being totally lacking, didn't think they'd make the swap.
Would Columbus be interested in a roster player back like Samuelsson? Probably a bit overpaid and a little injury prone, but when he signed his deal (7x4m) he was looking like a steal.

That seems like a lot from the Sabres perspective. I think the two roster players and a 2nd perhaps. Quinn is a 2020 8OA and has show a scoring touch at every level. He's been tripped up by a few injuries, so I don't think the value there isn't far of from Jiricek. He's a top 6, plays the PP, and has even been known to PK - so there is upside.
Part of me thinks this is all for show from Waddell. If the player hasn't explicitly asked for a trade but implying he wants an NHL job Waddell could be doing this as "I'm trying but nothing makes sense, guess you'll have to wait it out". Rushing this in any direction does not benefit the CBJ
I say make it work until the offseason one way or another. From there you need to give him some pretty direct training protocols. I don't care if he goes and works with Jessica Campbell's pretty renowned skating school who can build his basics and work on his skating as a whole. I don't care if they put him and Werenski in 1 oversized shirt and attach them at the hip for a summer so Jiricek does everything Z does. I don't care if he goes home and has a team rep check in with him constantly, just do something to closely monitor the kid and steer him in the right direction. Maybe get Werenski in his ear about how much an agent change can be good for a player too. You don't need someone in your ear that only tells you what you want to hear.

- blue jackets arent close to giving up on him but the blue jackets think jiricek isn't close to where he needs to be but jiricek does think he's close to where he needs to be
- More forwards being pushed as the pieces rather than defensemen.
- "We aren't just going to take the best offer. We are going to wait for the right offer"
- if a prospect is not available theyd take a first round pick and a depth defenseman
- bruins have came after olivier at the deadline the last two years
- Doesn’t think the pens move a 1st round because they could be just as bad next season and don’t want to end up losing either pick in a good range.
Pens remain terrible trade partners. They're in division, have pretty much no prospect semi-worthy other than McGroarty, and won't move a 1st. Unless our FO is really high on McGroarty, how could PIT compete with MIN, SJ, or NSH?
reading between the lines:
- dubas loves jiricek
- they're reluctant to give up their first since they look like a lotto team
- even with protections on this year's pick they're likely to be a lotto team next year
- pittsburgh pick in the top 7-8 range, maybe higher – with protections that means no hagens/martone/schaefer but that next tier (misa, ryabkin, mcqueen, frondell) would be in play – or deferred to next year in the mckenna/belchetz/roobroeck lotto
- CBJ pick likely in the 8-15 range, ideal trade chip for a star-level player
- likely another first for provorov, which they could use to target a goalie (ivankovic, ravensbergen)

I just don’t understand the people who say “ugh” or are sentimental when it comes to trading Jiricek.
while he hasn’t requested a trade, he has demanded way more ice time and a much more prominent role at the NHL level and that is simply not even close to happening.
I understand he hasn’t gotten consistent minutes with the big club, but his potential now compared to when he was drafted has diminished exponentially. his skating is putrid always has been and still is. his play/IQ in the defensive zone is well below average.
could he thrive in another organization? Sure he absolutely could but it’s not going to happen here and that’s evident.
the sooner this is over the better.
thank goodness he hasn’t gotten the 20+ minutes a night with a top spot on the PP that he has been demanding because if that were the case we’d have yet another toxicity in our locker room and Lord knows we’ve had plenty of those over the years.

There were some not too high on Johnson last year also, hasn't turned out to be a good take. A lot can change and it can change quickly. Not realizing your potential at age 20 doesn't not mean it has diminished "exponentially" and also doesn't mean it can't be realized here. There is a development portion of draft and development and not everyone of them goes how you expect it. Almost no cases do

I made the exponentially statement based on my beliefs. I don’t believe his potential is that of someone typically drafted in the top 10.

Russo is very plugged in with the Wild. He doesn't think Rossi, Yurov, Wallstedt, or Buium are touchable. This would leave Daemon Hunt, Liam Ohgren, Riley Heidt, Hunter Haight. and Declan Chisholm.
"The Blue Jackets were initially asking for a similar top prospect back in return for Jiricek but have since reportedly shifted to considering offers on package deals. That’s probably because Columbus, understandably, aimed high for blue-chip prospects in each interested franchise only to be rebuffed."
Personally I don't make a trade with the Wild if it's not for one of their "untouchables". Would make no sense to send off a prospect of his stature and not get something remotely close in return.
I was already prepared for some disappointment with any team in general but man this puts it in perspective.

Hope Waddell just let's him cook in the AHL for a while. Unless there is way more behind the scenes drama going on it doesn't make sense to get rid of him just to get rid of him. This isn't Laine on a bad contract needing a change of scenery.
