On David Jiricek: Very available. I think they've narrowed it down to a handful of teams. Can we get a guy that's young and can help us right now? Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres. I would expect something to get done quite soon.

Rossi would be the most obvious guess from Wild and Sabres have plenty of options that fit the description but who would be the young Pens player helping us immediately? Mateychuk's cousin Pickering is up with the big club but is he playing that well already?

I'd like to get a RHD in return since we don't have crazy depth at the position either, so how about Ostlund+Komarov?

Also would be curious to hear what separates Helenius, Wahlberg and Kulich from Ostlund and makes them untouchable?

I wouldn't say untouchable, but Helenius made Savoie tradable and makes Ostlund available, Sabres have two prospects in the system that play power forward - Wahlberg and Poltapov (probably will never sign), and Kulich is probably taking Quinn's spot on the roster before new years.

It's more of a positional statement.

I like Komorov and given RHD dept being totally lacking, didn't think they'd make the swap.

Would Columbus be interested in a roster player back like Samuelsson? Probably a bit overpaid and a little injury prone, but when he signed his deal (7x4m) he was looking like a steal.

That seems like a lot from the Sabres perspective. I think the two roster players and a 2nd perhaps. Quinn is a 2020 8OA and has show a scoring touch at every level. He's been tripped up by a few injuries, so I don't think the value there isn't far of from Jiricek. He's a top 6, plays the PP, and has even been known to PK - so there is upside.

Part of me thinks this is all for show from Waddell. If the player hasn't explicitly asked for a trade but implying he wants an NHL job Waddell could be doing this as "I'm trying but nothing makes sense, guess you'll have to wait it out". Rushing this in any direction does not benefit the CBJ

I say make it work until the offseason one way or another. From there you need to give him some pretty direct training protocols. I don't care if he goes and works with Jessica Campbell's pretty renowned skating school who can build his basics and work on his skating as a whole. I don't care if they put him and Werenski in 1 oversized shirt and attach them at the hip for a summer so Jiricek does everything Z does. I don't care if he goes home and has a team rep check in with him constantly, just do something to closely monitor the kid and steer him in the right direction. Maybe get Werenski in his ear about how much an agent change can be good for a player too. You don't need someone in your ear that only tells you what you want to hear.

F & N w Porty notes:

• blue jackets arent close to giving up on him but the blue jackets think jiricek isn't close to where he needs to be but jiricek does think he's close to where he needs to be
• More forwards being pushed as the pieces rather than defensemen.
• "We aren't just going to take the best offer. We are going to wait for the right offer"
• if a prospect is not available theyd take a first round pick and a depth defenseman
• bruins have came after olivier at the deadline the last two years
• Doesn’t think the pens move a 1st round because they could be just as bad next season and don’t want to end up losing either pick in a good range.

Pens remain terrible trade partners. They're in division, have pretty much no prospect semi-worthy other than McGroarty, and won't move a 1st. Unless our FO is really high on McGroarty, how could PIT compete with MIN, SJ, or NSH?
