seravalli mentioned san jose and buffalo as two teams that could get involved. will smith would be the pipe dream scenario. eklund would also be a fun add. more realistically i wonder if cozens would be available (he's pricy but would fit a lot of what we want – size, skill, RH)

Why is the organization potentially going to shoot itself in the foot to do a favor for a player?
Jiricek was not drafted by this new regime they don't have any special connection to him. Maybe their projection of him is not as high as the forum projections. Honestly, I would take the evaluation of the current people making these decisions over a bunch of us in the forum (no disrespect). Seriously, what do we know, we are not at practice every day, we are not traveling with the team, we are not the ones in the film sessions with him and we are not the ones paid to evaluate him day in and day out.

Just to add, DW seems to really value players who are mobile. That Carolina team as fast and still is after seeing them on Saturday. If the knock on Jiricek is his mobility and they don't see a long term fit, let's trade when value is high to find someone who does.

Sure but why are they "committed" to moving him? If someone offers you better value for him, great then make the trade. If they don't, then you keep him and tell him to come back when it's time for contract discussions.

Same reason we moved Laine, to be done with drama and move on and focus on the guys here that want to be here.

That's exactly where I'm at. I think he'll be a good NHL defensemen but I just don't think he has the athleticism to be a top pair guy.

How? A high end prospect wants out, the prospect seems to be playing nice right now and playing for the AHL club and not being a petty little diva. The club are willing to get him out and a searching for the right deal, since the prospect is playing nice. What are they supposed to do?

Off-topic, I really don't miss Laine. I don't think he would have meshed well with HCDE's system. Don't get me wrong, no hard feelings and wish him well but I feel like moving him was really good for us.

For the Sharks and Sabres:

Bystedt+pick
Dickinson (we add)

Kulich/Ostlund+Komarov
jiricek's a rare asset and there's a bidding war going on. you're aiming too low.

san jose: ask for will smith, from there move to eklund. beyond that it's dickinson or maybe musty++

buffalo: something like byram/cozens, or a package built around kulich or quinn.

Wouldn't hate any of them.

Cozens is interesting. I think he could do really well here. It's a bit of a risk with his contract but honestly he'd fit right in and adds another center to a young team. It also allows to relieve some pressure on Fantilli and to take your time with Lindstrom.

I'm a little nervous for the return. But if there are really 5 or 6 teams making offers, that gives me some hope that they are going to get something in value. Hopefully, they can drive a bit of a bidding war.

cozens fits the bill for some of the speculative wish list stuff that columbus hopes to achieve:
  1. player of similar stature (young, high pick)
  2. improves the team up front
  3. a player they can sell to the fan base to get them excited
23 years old, two years removed from a 31-37–68 season, seems to be falling out of favor with buffalo… to me he's a really nice target. i'm a bit higher on jack quinn's overall toolkit but cozens is likely the more valuable piece as he's more established.

yeah there's definitely a bidding war. from some of the reporting today:
  1. 5-6 offers on the table already for waddell to sift through
  2. they're trying to see if there's anything else out there before pulling the trigger + are open to pick packages (in other words, seeing if someone will step up with a godfather offer)
  3. they've responded to some teams with "don't waste your time, you don't have the pieces to make that happen" – my guess here is pittsburgh + edmonton specifically
if they can get some teams into a bidding war (let's say san jose, buffalo, minnesota and philly) they'll come out of it with a really nice haul.

Tell him nothing is going to happen unless the right deal comes along and he should focus on playing.

We did it before with Laine. That phrasing, more than anything else, has me believing it's very real.
At this point I'm fairly confident if I told Waddell the $20 in his pocket wants a change of scenery, he'd give it to me for $10.

I like the idea of a Western team, in case he does boom in a few years, at least he's in the other conference. If it's an Atlantic or (especially) a Metro team then there needs to be an added tax
