Honest question, what were Detroit fans saying this time last year about Edvinsson? 3 Years after being drafted 6th overall and having trouble breaking out of the AHL? It feels like a close comp on paper, but I haven't been following Edvinsson as much since he was drafted.
the main difference here is that edvinsson's game was always built on his skating and that the other tools weren't as loud.

with jiricek it's the opposite – loud tools but skating that needs work.

Nashville has 3 firsts this year I believe, don't really know their prospects, Oilers have nothing i want (aside from the obvious two) and no firsts

When we trade him i hope it's not just for picks

Im not too familiar with their lineup, but If it’s Nashville, Evangelista should be involved. Young player, seemingly established.

Kemell's supposed to be a scoring winger with a good shot; he's not quite developed as quickly as hoped but still looks good, yet I would flinch a little given the sheer number of prospect wingers we have. Matthew Wood's putting up nicer numbers but in so doing has probably placed himself in "do not ask" territory. Molendyk definitely has, which is a shame because he'd have been my first ask (and the Preds fan in me would say "nope, no thanks" ;) ). Svechkov still looks like he might be a decent middle-6 center someday - which makes him more valuable to the Preds than to us. L'Heureux, despite my personal reservations about him when drafted, brings the sort of energy that we want more of up here but which Nashville desperately needs any whatsoever of and so his name probably shouldn't even be mentioned. Folks haven't made up their minds on Edstrom yet, I don't think, but given that he was just brought in for Askarov and there's already lots of cynicism about that trade, I dunno if that'd make for a productive discussion with other Preds fans.

Short version is they've got a lot of guys who are good, but who we'd consider Depth Prospects.

Evangelista would be both nice for me to see as a Jackets fan and disappointing for me as a Preds fan, since he's also getting his ice time limited for seemingly no good reason - he'd be a worthwhile target for us but the Preds really should be keeping him and playing him more. Much like how I felt about Fabbro, actually...

Nothing really new here. Taking calls on him, and getting offers. Looking for a similar young player. Oilers interested but he doesn’t see a match

I know Waddell said that they are looking for an equivalent coming back. But as alluded to, there's not a whole lot of interest in Nashville either. I guess Jiricek for Nashville's unprotected 1st as a base might be interesting. Or Saros.

EDIT: Something I thought about while all the talk about a Jiricek trade started was whether a Jiricek for Stankoven swap could be on the cards? Probably not realistic, but just throwing it out there.

EDIT #2: But at the end of the day, this just seems to be some random guy regurgitating the same old rumours.

I’d might try a mad scientist approach with Jiricek for the next two months if I were the GM. It be to sit down with him and tell him we want him getting ice time over the next two months so he’d spend the weekend in Cleveland and at least one weekday game in the lineup with Columbus. It may seem like a yo-yo approach but it gets him ice time while also getting NHL games - likely more than he’s getting now.
I get it, but what message does that send to guys like Mateychuk and even Svozil, who both appear to be playing better than Jiricek and more worthy of a recall. Leave him there and let him figure it out. If a RHD slot opens and he's playing well enough to earn his NHL ice time...fine, bring him back up. I don't think he needs the yo-yo approach aside from massaging his feelings. Suck it up and go learn to play D.

I don’t understand, isn’t Edmonton in a win now mode? How does Jiricek help with that when he’s clearly not NHL ready?

Why a base? I think I'd do it straight up. Nashville appears headed for the dumpster so their pick will be top 8 or better and will double the chance for a lottery win. ( I assume if they won the lottery we'd get the 1oa? )

Jiricek did well in the A last year but has struggled in Columbus. I'd cut my losses and take a flier on someone else just like Jiricek is still a chancy proposition.

No idea if Minnesota is interested or need D but any chance for a Marco Rossi swap? You would think Minnesota wouldn't trade him and I'm guessing Columbus would have to add. The Wild writer on The Athletic thinks Minnesota doesn't like him long term so they'll trade him eventually. He just didn't know if it would be this season or in the off season. But even if Minnesota doesn't like seems like wishful thinking imo.

I always say "as a base" when I make an initial suggestion in this context. The base can be the whole thing or need complementary pieces, in my mind.

Mavrik Bourque seems to be struggling with his 1st season with a limited role on a pretty deep offensive team in Dallas.

That’s who I’d personally target.

J.T. Miller has personal problems, Canucks can't trade Elias.
Pettersson's NMC kicks in next season so they can still trade him-but who would want him?

If LA was able to unload PLD without any retention anything is possible I guess.

I was looking at recent top 10ish draft picks who could be involved in a trade for Jiricek. There might be adds on some of these, but if we generally follow a top pick for top pick model, these are some names I could see. I tried to avoid D for D trade, because why? But Reinbacher might make sense. I picked Kasper over Danielson from Detroit because I think they would rather hold on to Danielson.

2021
Tyler Boucher - I don’t see the Jackets (or anyone) having interest

2022
Shane Wright - progressing comparatively slowly
Marco Kasper - progressing comparatively slowly
Matthew Savoie - progressing comparatively slowly

2023
David Reinbacher - knee injury, fans now hate the pick
Ryan Leonard - might want a young offensive RD in system as potential Carlson replacement
Dalibor Dvorsky - might want potential high end RD in system, drafted his brother

boucher doesn't even look like he's going to be an NHLer at this point. I don't think there's any chance the caps move leonard, so the only name on your list who I think is doable is wright.

if you go back to the 2020 and 2019 drafts, you get a whole lot more names:
  • Marco Rossi
  • Jack Quinn
  • Bo Byram
  • Dylan Cozens
interestingly, three of those guys are on the sabres now. cozens is making $7m already and has looked rough this year but would check a lot of boxes (size, skill) – maybe moving him to the wing would unlock something in his game.

that said, I think quinn+ for jiricek is the best framework. quinn still has one ELC year and their wing pipeline is super crowded. I think he's going to be a top line + PP1 winger eventually, he has a ton of skill and a crazy shot.
