I am perfectly fine with trying bold things to get better. But before we do that we have to establish an identity and identify our core guys.

unless they're comfortable betting on him having a huge summer (like KJ did) i don't think he's part of the core. and if traded, he could absolutely return a core guy imo.

he's not waddell or evason's guy, and neither have been shy about praising other young players (KJ in particular)

If we want to be bold this offseason, have at it, but right now we should still be in assess mode. Jiricek shouldn’t be seen as an untouchable asset but we shouldn’t be looking to get him out of here either.

For example, in the offseason if Edmonton wants to do a deal center around a signed Bouchard for Jiricek+? I’m all in.

given how much cap space we have + some of the growth curves for the young players + how the team has competed so far, i'd absolutely give up a top-5 protected first rounder this year + jiricek to get a guy like dobson or bouchard.

either they don't hit the lotto and the pick ends up in the 7-12 range, or they do and the pick slides, in which case they can load up via FA/trade and become a bubble team next year and walk away with something like dobson + martone.

I really doubt Edmonton wants to rid itself of Bouchard while McDavid and Draisatl are in their prime for a floundering player and a maybe (draft pick).

I completely agree with the "asset building" strategy. No need to do anything rash. Jiricek will still have decent market value at the end of the season as his age and the "change of scenery" characteristics are positives for him.

I'm personally not there yet (i.e. given up on him) with Jiricek. But if I woke up tomorrow and a deal like that had taken place, I'd be pumped. It's also not impossible that Columbus might get another 1st for Provorov with 50 % retention, which would mitigate the loss of that draft pick ever so slightly.

I find it hard to believe the coach when he says that not playing Jiricek is due to needing to enforce a standard but then Severson can flub an exit pass, fall down, give the Bruins a clean shot on goal from below the dots, and then Severson doesn't miss a shift.

I'm of the thinking that Jiricek is in the same boat as Elvis. It's "now or never" (pun intended). By the beginning of next season the answer will be clear. They'll be moved/bought out by mid summer.

david jiricek gets scratched repeatedly and when he's in gets 9 minutes because he makes a mistake as a young player

damon severson repeatedly makes worse mistakes as a veteran player and still gets 27 minutes last night

I don’t think we know enough about the new regime and how they are communicating with Jiricek. Maybe Jiricek wants a higher paycheck more than playing time and the team wants daily weight lifting and skating practice more than playing time and everyone is happy. Maybe the agreement is everyone will keep their mouths shut and the team will quietly work on a trade. Maybe they are all angry (team wants Jiricek in Cleveland, Jiricek has threatened to not report) and don’t see an upside from making the positions public.

I think we will learn a lot about the current regime as this works itself out.

absolutely not lol

wouldn't be opposed to dach in theory but definitely not in a jiricek trade. dach only played two games last year and is injured all the time. maybe something around sillinger for dach, but definitely not jiricek.
