A 1st as in MTL's 1st, such a late pick as CGY's makes absolutely zero sense for Columbus. Waddell wants an offer he can't refuse or he'll gladly wait, simply the best offer available right now won't do it.
CBJ are the sellers here and there's absolutely no way they are "listening to offers" on their 20 y.o high upside RD if there wasn't a situation brewing in Colombus.

I think they absolutely take the best offer they get. Whether that offer is advantageous to them or not has yet to be determined.

Chris Johnston talks about a roster player, a prospect AND a pick.

I think Columbus will be happy with the return if that is the case!

From Montreal, I could see Calgary's 1st, one of Barron/Xhekaj/Struble and Beck as the BEST package offered if there is indeed a bidding war.

That is basically 3 x mid/late 1st value. Not sure if that is enough.

And Aaron Portzline reported what I just said. He also noted that he doesn't think it's as imminent as others seem to think. Listening to what Waddell himself has been saying, he sounds like a guy who is not in a hurry to trade Jiricek.

The 2025 class is also considered weak. Where would Jiricek have gone in a re-draft?

To your second, and actually interesting, point: no. Going into the season, I might have thought Calgary's pick had higher value than Montréal's. If CBJ thinks Calgary's pick will be top 10, then that's a different story. The original post said around pick 22, so that's what I responded. My point is that if Waddell trades Jiricek for pick 22 and unremarkable prospect, I don't believe that benefits the Blue Jackets and thus goes against Waddell's motivation for even listening to trade offers in the first place.
I understand you might not be familiar with the very complicated conditions on the FLA/CGY pick, but the best realistic scenario is for CGY's pick to be in the 11-16 range. If CGY's pick is top 10 we're getting FLA's pick.

I think the 2025 draft class is not deep, but I think the top 5 is decent. Montreal is last in the league right now.

Scheafer, Hagens and Misa would go over anyone from Jiricek's draft (at the time of their respective draft). Jiricek was drafted 6 and he would still be around the same spot.

You're asking for more than he's worth and more than the trade market return for high draft pick D+2 yet to prove themselves as nhler
