pictured: day oneSeems like Jiricek has been a little unhappy since day one.
pictured: day one
you said Day 1, and then linked to an article from (by my math) Day 572.Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli Hands Down Damning Indictment of the Blue Jackets Front Office Amid David Jiricek Controversy
Daily Faceoff NHL insider Frank Seravalli handed down a damning indictment of Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen and the team's front office.www.1stohiobattery.com
by all accounts he took the demotion well and without issue. if he's unhappy about it, he hasn't said, but the 90% pay-cut would make me mad too.Why is he unhappy playing in the AHL he is 20 years old lol
That extension might be what negates any sort of future value if he can't pick up his production.Hoglander will never be a top sixer. His value is not that of a top tier prospect in return.
Have to think big picture. Taking a 90% cut now may be what helps you get a multi year big contract later. Likely not in the next contract as he hasn’t shown much on his elc in the nhl.by all accounts he took the demotion well and without issue. if he's unhappy about it, he hasn't said, but the 90% pay-cut would make me mad too.
Columbus is looking for a player who hasn't popped yet(I guess a player who has potential to be more than what they are/hasn't shown what they are)

it sounds like you think I am the one who says he's available. I am merely noticing that your team has made him available?last year jarmo told him to get a place out of camp, then vincent refused to give him any ice time and eventually he got sent back down, which caused a whole kerfuffle.
this year he got a top-four opportunity right in camp, but evason didn't like what he saw. evason leans HARD on his top two pairs, and now that we can roll out werenski-fabbro and provorov-severson, both of those pairs are playing 24+ minutes a night.
the best place for him in this org right now is the AHL, as you said. i do think he would benefit from a team giving him like 16-18 minutes a night + power play time in the NHL, though. that's just not something evason was willing to do.
[points to "korchinski and nemec from the same draft are in the AHL too" sign]
don't make me tap the sign
you characterized him as an asset that is "shooting down in value like a bullet" which is untrue.it sounds like you think I am the one who says he's available. I am merely noticing that your team has made him available?
It's not necessarily Waddell saying we're looking to trade him, it's more everyone on the roster is available for the right price. By all accounts Waddell isn't shopping him around the league.it sounds like you think I am the one who says he's available. I am merely noticing that your team has made him available?
look I don't have a lot of strong feelings about this player. he's only more on my radar because he has a younger brother we're already worried about. the threads started out saying what's his value? now they say he's available.you characterized him as an asset that is "shooting down in value like a bullet" which is untrue.
his value hasn't changed, his availability has. he's available now. but as an asset the most direct comparables are nemec and korchinski (same age, draft pedigree, development stage).
development isn't linear, especially on defense. he still has elite tools and things to work on. the upside is still there.
They have been speculating, not reporting. There is a very important difference.Everyone else has been reporting Jiricek is on the trade block.
Funny he keeps being asked for in trades, and has been for years but nobody wants him.........
They signed that deal when he was blowing his wad and shooting more than 2X his career lol. Like I said in the Hoglander signed thread. They are almost trying to give him away now.Hoglander will never be a top sixer. His value is not that of a top tier prospect in return.
in theory, sure. in reality, i don't think it's that complicated. the old regime picked him. the old regime also ruined the relationship. the new one gave him a chance to grab a top four spot in camp and he didn't.you and I both know that #6 overall 1D picks don't really become available 18 months after getting picked unless there is serious concern somewhere
...and, more to the point, if folks decide not to give us the value in point #2 because "omg lol distressed asset", the pre-Fabbro course of action is still a viable and desirable option.in theory, sure. in reality, i don't think it's that complicated. the old regime picked him. the old regime also ruined the relationship. the new one gave him a chance to grab a top four spot in camp and he didn't.
it's not an indictment on the player that he still has to round out his game in the AHL as a 20-year-old defenseman. his peers (korchinski + nemec) are in the exact same spot.
at the end of the day, though, jiricek is only available because:
a couple weeks ago the obvious course of action was to wait it out and solve the problem listed in point #1 with patience. the fabbro acquisition (he's been dynamite) changes things. now they can leverage the value in point #2 to solve the problem in point #1 and not hurt themselves at RD.
- the player isn't ready and the agent is a problem
- he's a rare asset with desirable traits (big RHD with tons of skill)
