Guerin is in his bag. His size, shot, skill combo reminded me so much of Ekblad when I watched him as a prospect. I’m not saying he’s going to be that, but if he can be the RD2 and help the powerplay while adding physicality and some much needed size to a undersized blue line, we’re going to be loving this trade for years to come.

Quick rundown of Hunt?

Hunt is mobile, crisp first pass, decent gaps, and will play physical. Injury prone if you track his junior/world junior and AHL career (blocked shots, playing physical).

He will light guys up at times but sometimes takes himself out of the play. He has a decent shot, too. I think hes a 5 or 6th dman with chance to be 4sh if everything aligns.

Adding to this: Many of us think he's NHL ready right now, but we also got a very deep blue line that's hard to crack. Merrill has been playing ahead of him simply because we'd rather have Hunt on the ice than off it.

I liked him as a player. Had that blend of mobility and physicality that seems tailor-made for today's NHL. I didn't see a massive upside in him, but thought he could very well be a solid 3rd pairing guy that can step up to 2nd in a pinch.

Plus, of course, he's got that all-star name. I mean, Daemon Hunt. I'm sad we lost the guy, but it seems unlike he would've found a spot for us anyway, doubly so with how well Chisholm has played so far this season. Got Brodin and Middleton ahead of him, with Buium coming up the ranks. Overall, it seems like a trade that makes sense for both teams; we're taking the risk and got a bit higher upside, you guys get some solid assets and a fine young player who has room for improvement and can contribute immediately.

This is the disturbing part, for me. The NHL is a fast league now. Everyone can skate, unless you are exceptionally savvy and positionally sound. If he can't skate, or his defending is poor, then he won't be playing in our top 4. i would also argue, with Faber, Buium, and Chisholm around, that we don't need a dman that provides offense so much as one that can defend and be physical.

Everybody wins except the Columbus fans who insisted it was going to be Yurov, Buium or Wallstedt or no deal.

I love adding Jiricek to a pool of Yurov, Buium, Wallstedt, Heidt and Ohgren, in addition to Boldy, Rossi and Faber in the NHL. The U24 group is skilled and it is deep. Now we just need to develop them.

He and his agent were less than pleased about his handling in Columbus, though I don't think they formally asked for a move. Current CBJ GM also wasn't the one who drafted him, so had no attachment to him or felt they needed to stay invested in him.

I'd be shocked if Andy Ness can't work some magic with him. While he may not be able to turn him into a "great" skater, I'd be willing to bet he can get him significantly better then he is now and likely very serviceable.

I get what you're saying and I'm not doubting it. But, the Ness's (Andy & his mom Diane) are supposed to be a couple of the best skating coaches in the game. I've no doubt the Wild will get Jiricek paired with them as soon as they can.

I'll admit I don't get to watch the Wild too much, other than watching you smack us around twice already this year. That goalie you got is the real deal.

Actually surprised because there is a logjam up front...Ohgren/Haight/Bankier/Milne/Toporowski and then Heidt and Yurov and maybe Kumpulainen and Rieger Lorenz.

Not saying I disagree with the trade or anything - but I def thought a forward was going back.

Every team has access to great skating coaches. Ness is great, but if the player doesn't dig in, and just does the minimum, he won't improve - remember, all the other players are constantly working, also.

Rossi is one of the few guys who has come in and really dedicated himself to improving his strength and skating, over and above what everyone else does. The guy missed his sister's wedding, summers in his lovely Austrian village, and games with his national team just so he could stay in St. Paul and spend his summers in the arena, and gym. If Jiricek has that sort of commitment, great. I have my doubts, but here's to hoping that he shows up in MN with a brand new attitude, ready for a fresh start.
