I keep seeing he is 6’3, he looks at least 6’4. Guy is a unit. But he clearly does need to add some strength. Get him on the Rossi plan and he will be great

Jiříček needs personal trainer and coupla hard, pipe-hittin black guys with a pair of pliers and a blow torch in case of him making any problems.

Skating can be fixed, to a certain extent. So can strength, probably more easily with his long frame. Length and shot are bonuses, as is being a RHS. Also has some good puck skills.

Sounds like his mental game needs some work. Hopefully he can pick up things over the next year or two. sounds like Brodin would be the ideal candidate for partnering with him, eventually.

My take on Jiricek as someone who was very happy the Jackets drafted him and not disappointed that the Jackets traded him:

He has size but not toughness and he doesn’t know how to intimidate people with his size.

If he is back on defense (a big if) then you should fake to the outside. He’ll bite on the fake and then you can go straight to the goalie and he won’t recover. I have seen this happen to him a few times.

He is likely to to be up too far in the offense and unable to get back on defense.

He has a booming shot.

He is more engaged/aware/intelligent in the offensive zone.

Jiricek is the kind of guy who can have a goal and an assist and be -2 for the game.

I was happy when the Jackets drafted him, and I 100% blame Jarmo Kekalainen and Pascal Vincent for not communicating well with him and making him want to leave the team. That said I am a fan of good defense and a punishing style of hockey — that is the opposite of how David Jiricek plays.

Any chance he's in the roster tonight? Or still nacho eating on his way to AHL?

All signs point to not being in the lineup. They may just be getting him together with the NHL coaches so they can see where he's at and what they want him working on.

I would imagine he needs a fair amount of practice to familiarize himself with the Wild systems. It's usually the most complex with the D and C. I also can't get my head around him pairing with Bogo, or Bogo being benched to play Jiricek.

Jiricek's chance to play will be when one of the RHD gets an injury.

This game seems like the perfect one to play him. Drop Merrill out and slide Bogosian over.

I hope that Brackett, Guerin and his scouting staff saw something special in his recent play, and didn't trade for him just because he was a high draft pick.

Hunt isn't a special talent, but he is still young, and will be a NHL'er, i think. That, and a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th is a lot to give up for a guy who has been a disappointment since being drafted.

I would be very surprised if they didn't have pro scouts watching him before buying. I'm not saying it's never happened, but the results of most of the trades Guerin has made have actually been pretty positive, so he either has a horseshoe up his ass, or a decent pro scouting staff that he employs regularly and actually listens to.

I don't even know if you can call everything since his draft a disappointment, more like he just hasn't been able to put it all together. The offense is clearly there at the ahl level and most guys wouldn't have even been in the ahl at those ages let alone putting up good numbers.

Yea they had pro scouts watching him, and Guerin is not the bafoon many make him out to be.

No, I bet they just went to his Wikipedia article after talking to the Columbus GM and saw he was a the #6 pick and traded for him. Definitely realistic.

fletchers 2nd worst trade after kim johanson. mental rentals hanzel & white for a 1st & 2nd. drunks at my bar say others like boston were interested in jiricek. i still think hes a huge risk we overpaid for.
