i wonder what torts conditioning program might do to him. Hurt him or help him?

I'm sure that like virtually every other player in the league he will come into camp "in the best shape of his career".

Clarkson is what he is. He got paid off from a great year. He's a solid 3rd line player if he has the right line mates and he's healthy.
If he's injured he's at best a 4th line player. He needs to be strong enough to play gritty hockey, and if he's not healthy he can't do it.
By all accounts he is a nice guy. He's just a nice guy with the worst contract in the league and we're stuck with him.

So visqi I saw you in the Expansion NMC thread, if I read that right, we don't have to protect Clarkson right?!

Trying not to get ahead of myself but...

It continues to be unclear. We believe that Clarkson has a partial NMC, which would suggest he doesn't have to be protected. There's nuance to it that has yet to be made public (it may not even have been fully worked out yet) and per Portzline, the CBJ are hoping that goes in their favor.

Thank you. So its basically TBD.

how do you have a partial no movement clause? either you can or can't be waived????
There's multiple forms of player movement and they all have different implications.

We should still protect Clarkson as an homage to not insuring Horton's contract

I saw someone post in another thread that Datsuke and Pronger only had 1 year left on their contract. Arizona will have to do something after this season to make up cap. Maybe there is hope...or maybe I'm just one of the many dreamers.

The Yotes only have $24m committed for '17-'18 as of now. They're going to have a flood of young guys making under $1m each. Maybe their new analytics GM will see the value of Clarkson

We are getting pretty creative at making ways to get rid of Clarkson

The Yotes have a history of taking on these of types of contracts. They have a boatload of UFAs leaving this year and next. It's not out of the realm of possibilities to need a $5m winger to get to the floor next year. At least we can hope

Don't get cap relief unless you add a player that puts you over the Cap. So you have th3 money in the bank so to speak but it doesn't simply come off is my understanding.

Yeah but effectively there is no difference right? The second we spend over the cap we get relief?

Thanks. So its kind of like a buffer then?

We're at like 4 something in cap space right? If we added a player with a 4M contract and he(Clarkson) was LTIR eligible he would go in since adding that would put us up against the cap? And if he goes into LTIR his 5M comes off our total cap?

If I remember correctly, you only need to move back up to the cap at one moment in time to initiate the LTIR relief. So you can do it with paper moves like calling up all of your big cap hit ELCs for a day? Maybe not.

OK, I'll bite. I think he gets paid $5 million today as his bonus kicks in, and he "only" gets $2 million salary rest of the season. Maybe he's tired of his injuries and all the venom he's taken since signing that contract. Maybe he'll say the $5 million he gets today is enough and he'll retire tomorrow and take a position in the organization like Chris Clark has. He'd go from most **** on to most loved in the period of a day. Hell, people would probably petition for a statue of him to be erected if he retired now.

Well, you said to get creative...

Has there been any articles, like actual legit articles with quotes, that say he's possibly going to never play again?
