Dave Stubbs calls PJ Stock a "sensational[ist], irresponsible" liar for PK comments

PJ Stock has been an advocate for controversy since he started in the media. His 2hour radio show on The Team was very telling in that every argument he made - whether rational or not - was meant to get under everyone's skin. I recall one time where he called Komisarek a "soft player"(!)

There should be NO stock put into anything he says. Either he legitimately hates the Habs or pretends to because it's good tv/radio. Either way, he doesn't deserve my indignation. He's a clown when it comes to the Habs. A Bill O'Reilly type who has bought some credibility by having been an NHLer.

Not at all. Maybe PK is a problem in the room.

Even if he is though:

1. His teammates should've handled this better.
2. PJ Stock's comments are still inaccurate and unprofessional.
3. PK DID actually take far less money than he could've made had he demanded a trade.
4. Stubbs is absolutely right in calling out Stock on his *********.

Agreed.
I think it's important to note too that there's a huge difference between "he irks teammates at times" and "he's a cancer in the dressing room".

Somehow I suspect the rest of the players are fully aware that they are a better team with PK than without and they appreciate how he goes to war out there. He leaves nothing on the ice. They have to respect that.

I also suspect this whole thing is much more of an issue in the media, here, on twitter etc than it is in the actual dressing room.

there's a refusal to accept that pk might be a problem on these boards that i just can't understand

You realize how stupid this sounds? I mean, obviously you don't but let's try to put some clarity in you.

First off, in your first post in this thread, you said "the truth is that nobody knows what's going on", and then you followed it by "you always believed PK is a cancer". So you are making a conclusion based on inconclusive hearsay. Do you understand this? It's freaking Pejorative Slured.
And this hearsay is what exactly? That he isn't liked by all the 20 other guys? OMG! Headline!!
You ever liked all your classmates? If you did then your flat out lying

And explain to me how a rookie/sophomore can have so much power in a room full of veterans to actually be a cancer??? You're gonna tell me guys like Spacek, Hammer, Gill, Gorges, Gionta, Cole, all guys that have actually wore a letter on their jerseys are just gonna let one young kid destroy a locker room? Ya sure, that makes a whole lot of sense.

You said "when there's smoke, there's usually fire". Sure, I can agree with that. But is it a Armageddon fire? Or a little camp fire? Or one tiny flame?
The only things we actually know is that PK, like 99% of the kids growing up in this world, needed to develop his maturity level. Like plenty of teenagers or early 20yo kids , they got on some of their peer's nerve. Oh my freaking god. Not even the whole water and sand of this world can put out this fire.

Could PK be annoying? Ya. So is my best friend. So is my mom. Same with wives, husbands, any siblings. Does this actually make him a problem? No. Especially not when he shows how committed he is to this team, his work ethic, his off season training, his on ice performance, his acceptance of an under value contract.

PJ stock has been on PK's case forever. If you actually followed him since his radio days here, you know, he's never been a big fan of the Habs, always had an issue with PK.
Now because PK wears a hoodie and listens to his iPod, he's a loner. Sure, makes sense. Can't be that he just likes wearing hoodies and wants to listen to his beat, Nope, its him being a loner.

Stock is just trying to stir **** up and create distraction before the Habs go up against the Ruins. He knows the Habs are legit and that pisses him off more than anything.

1. How? Other players got annoyed with the Avery's, Emery's and Carcillo's of the world. Blaming the rest of the locker room for one individual who is, in my opinion, the source of the problem, is doing like PK did and putting him before the team.
2. You don't know and I don't know if PJ's comments are inaccurate.
3. Would've resembled a free agent signing situation. We all know those are usually the best contracts awarded.
4. It's fine for Stubbs to call him out, however, there's no way to know wether he or Stock are right. My guess is the truth lies in the middle of what both are saying.

Sure, if you're happy with your appropriately paid average defenseman with attitude issues (my opinion anyway), you win.

That said, there's nothing that says this experience isn't/wasn't humbling to him and he'll fall in line, perform well and earn a better contract after this one. I will say this, the Montreal media, Stubbs included, are partly responsible for Subban seeing more value in himself than there actually is. I'm very happy that Bergevin stuck to his guns. Passed that first test with flying colors in my opinion.

If you're going to call Subban an 'average' defenseman, well, there goes any credibility you ever had on this board. Everyone from casual watchers to advanced stat guru's will know you for a fraud.

I love PK, but we have to be realistic, he's not a teammate favorite.

From what I've heard in the past (from Stubbs no less), neither is Markov. You can respect someone without being friends with them.

It's usually the role players who make the extra effort to be character guys who everyone wants to grab a beer with after the game. Gionta and Gorges don't have to invite Subban to their birthday parties, they just have to trust him on the ice.

You know I can easily look up your history. I already know your style. You don't like PK, you consider him a 'cancer' and 'overrated' even before PJ would come out with this 'info'.

Get back to me when you explain why Fowler got 4 mil a year for 5 years or why Benn deserves double what Subban got.

I get it, you're not a habs fan, it's cool. Just what do you want me to say? A rival team thinks Subban is a cancer?:amazed: The line starts over there.

And I've been reiterating that I'm no fan of Subban in this very thread. What's your point? I watch the Habs as much as I watch the Senators and follow both teams equally. Heck, before last years draft, when everyone was gung ho on Grigorenko, I posted that I felt he was the wrong fit for the Habs and that Galchenyuk would be a much better pick, a post that was then welcomed to the tune of "GTFO, you don't know what the Habs need". And now... Well... Since you like searching my post history, look it up.

Why would I explain what Fowler got? Would you want to take on that contract? :help: If anything, I don't know why you're not happier that Bergevin got PK for a discount, if that's how you choose to see it.

I don't think that's the case...

The issue is that it seems like everything Subban does (or apparently, doesn't do) is overblown and over-analyzed.

Do you think it's normal to blast a guy because he's listening to his IPOD before the game? Last year, he was accused of spitting on Michael Del Zotto when the Habs played the Rangers...and incident that both players denied even having knowledge of.

Does PK have a larger-than-life persona that he needs to tone down a bit? Yeah, especially in a sport like hockey...but to say that he's a cancer in the room and claim that NO ONE on the roster likes him? That's quite a leap to make without proof.

You'd have to be blind or deaf to not realize that it's gone way overboard at this point

CBC really needs to replace everybody, except for Ron MacLean and Don Cherry. Healy and Hughson and Simpson first to go.

Get Mike Milbury back, add a Brett Hull or a Roenick to make things controversial, I don't give a **** have Donald Brashear try to put 3 words together without getting a concussion, anybody!

The way I see it, Stubbs does havec habs colored glasses. But he is also a respected journalist who knows the difference between information and gossip. Stock obviously does not.
Stubbs seems to be close with a few habs players, which means he probably gets his fair share of info off the record. If the PK situation was that much of a mess, Stubbs would not have reacted with such strength.

Granted, he is above average, just not the #1 dman some make him out to be.

Hedman, Fowler, Benn, etc... all got more money and term than PK.

There's a refusal to accept that pk might be a very good player and teammate from you that i just can't understand

Oh I'm with you that because he carries that reputation (his fault) some things are potentially blown out of proportion. No disagreement here. My post that you quoted was just to adress those who claim anything on PK is lies, BS, etc.

On Fowler and Hedman, how are those contracts looking now? As for Benn, having watched him play quite a bit, he is in my opinion worth the money. We had this discussion a week ago or so right here re: value, pk vs benn, which was then posted on the main board and I think it was clear that most people see more value in Benn. Again, good on Bergevin for signing him to that contract.

Stock is trying to stay relevant in the hockey world the only way he knows how, by stirring the pot.

How can you agree its blown out of proportion then go around posting he's a cancer?

I also like that it's "his fault" apparently. He's responsible for some of it but the media and company like PJ don't add to this ridiculous persona? That's the discussion here, PJ stock being PJ stock. Throwing a line on TV to sound informed and push an agenda to gain more attention.
