Book smart and hockey sense (reading the ice well, seeing play develop) are not necessarily the same thing

Certainly but saying "nothing between the ears" is false. Also that's a myth about Nurses hockey sense, he was thrown to the wolves last year playing on the worst D in the league. Any rookie Dman would have had some struggles.

Nurse will be just fine.

I'd take a flier on him if he's available for like a 4th. From what I watched the skating is still a huge concern.

Agility is his concern, his acceleration and topspeed isn't really a problem in my eyes. Just needs better lateral movement.

EDM's LD depth chart is Klefbom-Sekera-Davidson, and he's got Nurse/Oesterle to battle with. Not chopped liver because he's a young guy on a loaded depth chart. Could be exposed for the expansion draft but man people are terribly ignorant about who he is as a prospect. Look at Morrisey's rookie AHL season and Reinhart's, get me Morrisey for a 4th

Wow, there is a lot of people that like to judge a player that they have not seen play at all, or much.
Nurse will be solid number 2, or 3 dman in this league. He was a rookie last year that liked to do too much. He is not the first or last one to do that. He got caught doing stuff that would work in the CHL and not the NHL. Once he learns to make the simple steps before the fancy steps, he will develop a lot better. He will be a defensive juggernaut and steady 20 to 30 point dman, with little powerplay if he continues to develop. Darnell will soon know when to either skate the puck out of danger, or to shoot, or pass it out of danger. Give the kid time to learn, before you right him off.

Seems funny how Reinhart is a write off at the age of 22. People should know that dmen take longer to develop. Same thing happen with Larsson, he was writing off and boom, look at what happens, he becomes a top pairing dman. Not saying Reinhart will be a top pairing dman, but you can't write him off after his second season as a pro. Two of his main issues were his skating, which isn't as bad as others make it out to be. He is still young enough where can try and improve his skating. The other issue was he was not aggressive enough in his zone. For most that watch him after he came up from the AHL the last time, notice he was a lot more aggressive. He is another guy that just needs more time before you can write him off as a bust or a guy that can't improve anymore.

People are really stupid if they think the Oilers would give up on a 7th OA pick after a rookie season.

Random thought not to do with NJ. Would Edmonton consider a Nurse for Honka swap. Dallas already has a RH PP QB in Klingberg and are stronger down the right with prospects than the left. Edmonton gets a guy who is ready this year and can fill that RH PMD they need

Nope, Nurse is worth waiting for. I'd consider trading other prospects but not the big guy with a mean streak who skates like the wind.

the cost will be very expensive...

being close to NHL ready and waived exempt, he's part of the "fix" in EDM, I dont think that they'd so an interest unless a MAJOR OVER-PAYMENT comes back in return

For a struggling 2013 pick that has 80 games with minor minutes?

Get real.

I love Nurse's compete level

But his Brain Cramp/ Rookie mistakes were pretty glaring.
- Chasing guys behind the net
- Leaving the front of the net uncovered

Just stuff you would have thought he would have rid from his game in the OHL.

He needs another year before trading him.

He won't be traded. He's got a long-term plan with Chia, Nurse will have a long career as an Oiler. Just needs time and seasoning, Dmen take time. D is the hardest position to adjust to at an NHL level, they need way more patience.

Classic HFboards: Edmonton is stupid they rush all their prospects and ruin them. Then the team actually brings the players along slowly and it shifts to oh these guys are busts. Anything to troll the Oilers.

Edmonton is finally starting to build some depth on their blue line and they will be able to offer these guys the opportunity of transitioning from big all situation minutes in the AHL to sheltered minutes in the NHL. Both of them performed well when properly deployed last season, they obviously struggled when forced into roles they weren't ready for.

As for Nurse being traded, I highly doubt Chia would consider it at this stage. The organization is still really high on him and just looking at some footage of him from the Biosteel camp he looks like he's really coming into his own, really starting to fill out too dude looks like a UFC fighter.

Reinhart is garbage.. you can have him for cheap. Nurse will play in the AHL and develop properly. I don't want Oilers rushing him like Smid.

Davidson(or Oesterle) will play in Nurses' place.

Reinhart will not be moved for cheap. He played well at the end of last season, the "he's garbage" crowd needs to chill out and realize that defensive defensemen take longer, and considering the progression Reinhart showed throughout last season, I seriously doubt that we are ready to consider moving on from him unless we get some pretty good incentive to do so.

Fwiw, Schenn had a better rookie season than nurse, at a younger age, on an equally awful team. Nurse could "bust" just as equally or worse than Schenn.

Schenn looked okay in his rookie year because he was sheltered. Nurse was looking good while sheltered too, but we had a string of injuries and had to move him too far up the depth chart. That's when his decision making was exposed. I see no issue with a rookie defenseman making a few mistakes, he will learn from them and improve. Schenn's biggest issue is that he can't skate. Nurse doesn't have that issue at all.

ehhh... ?? he was playing top 4 last year... maybe before commenting you should watch a game or 2

and I despise the Oils, but did C. Pronger (the player that Nurse got compared the most to) got superstar overnight...? NOPE! He actually sucked balls and swallowed in Hartford

EDIT: Dont get me wrong for the above... I dont think that Nurse will become has good as Pronger. The highest ceiling that I could see would be #2/3

Luke Schenn was never sheltered.
He actually played more minutes as a rookie than Nurse. Even back in Junior I've seen Nurse vexposed due to bad decision making. I fully expect nurse to be a good middle pairing defender, but he's not without flaw.
