That's interesting, I've read Animal's autobiography but didn't remember that. Not to be a stickler but I think it was Georgia Championship Wrestling owned by Ole Anderson not WCW/JCP.
It is a bit confusing as in 1982 Georgia Championship Wrestling changed the name of their Saturday night TV show from Georgia Championship Wrestling to World Championship Wrestling as they were trying to lose the " regional feel " to their audience.

Ah, didn't realize that.

If they go in depth about the accident that killed Adrian Adonis this coming DSOTR is going to be the most disturbing episode to date (yes, even more disturbing than Grizzly Smith). It's the single most sick and depraved incident I have ever heard of in wrestling history.

My uncle is from the town in Newfoundland where Adonis was killed. I'm very curious to hear they depict the accident and what happened.

I'm sure I'll get unreasonably agitated on how they pronounce Newfoundland the entire episode, though.

I haven't watch the episode, but what was so disturbing about the accident? All I ever really heard was it was a freak accident.

The ring truck crew that was behind them robbed the victims before calling for help
Oh that's pretty shitty, although I don't know that the show really needs to touch too much on that. Guy had enough other stuff while he was alive to talk about.

I don't know if that's more disturbing than Benoit.

Yep, I realized that after like an hour of searching... hahaha.

Didn't connect the dots.
It wasn't on my app yesterday, so I just moved on lol.

Checked this morning just to see if there was a glitch or not.

Tonight’s episode on Adrian Adonis was pretty good. Heartbreaking what happened to those guys.

Also, Ricky Johnson, my boy! You were the only one who pronounced Newfoundland correctly!

The season has been underwhelming and repetitive. Should be called dark side of substance abuse.

Idk what to tell ya, substance abuse is a huge part of the history of wrestling and the reason why there have been so many tragedies/crazy stories to come out of the business

It hasn’t been their best season but I think it’s been fine. Definitely watchable and I’ve learned about guys I didn’t know much about

I understand that substance abuse comes with the territory but they seem to be doubling down on it this season. When IMO there's so much more that can be said about some of these characters. A few of these subjects could've been two parts.

I'm looking forward to Bash at the Beach 2000, should be a nice break from all the drugs talk.

Imagine being a newb in a promotion and then going into a hotel room to find Adonis, Piper, Fuji and Sheik ripping lines.
I haven't read any books from Bret Hart, but I think that was the first time I saw him talk about doing drugs. It was a little weird even though I knew he did them, just another one of those guys that at the time you thought was clean as a whistle. Although in all fairness, I don't know how many wrestlers growing up I thought were addicts. I think Jake the Snake was really the only guy I ever knew of as we didn't have too much media coverage in Canada.

I think part of it is because this is called "Dark Side of the Ring".

Where does most of the dark come from? Generally drugs. There just isn't a whole lot of Dark non-drug related other than maybe Owen Hart's death, Montreal screwjob, Brawl for all.

As for this episode I think the most shocking thing was the transformation of a guy built like a brick house to a marshmallow man. For me Adonis is someone that I never really saw live and the footage I always saw was his later years when he was out of shape.

80's were wild. Wrestling, hockey, baseball, Wall Street, music. Coke was everywhere. Bret also mentioned the partying was too hard for he and Jim so they stopped or, at least, scaled back.
