Pretty insane with 11 points in 2 games.

But Ehlers was also a slow starter last year. Maybe it was because of heavy training during the summer holidays and it took some time for him to get his top speed back??

I doubt this, he was flying in NHL training camp. Some players just spend thier offseason on the ice less than others, just a matter of getting the feel again.

So he just needed some more ice time to get really going.
About getting going: Ehlers became player of the week in QMJHL and Oliver Bjørkstrand became player of the week in WHL (24-30th November)!!

They are really spoiling us these last two seasons :handclap:

Old video of Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup

I just found an 4 year old video of Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup (at that time 12 years old) practicing in his back-yard.

Video

He currently got 17 goals and 9 assists for 26 points in 11 games in USPHL 16U, and lead his team in both goals and points.

Nice backyard set-up :)

He looks skilled and he is bulky in weight despite only being 5'11, he will surely grow though - So good size aswell.

Anyone know anything about the level of the USPHL U16? It's generally considered to be a really good league right? - He must be good, since he has already been signed for the 17/18 season in the NCAA!

Has he played any games in the USHS for Kent prep yet?

Id like to know more about this kid!!! :handclap:

He is on the same team as Norwegian wonderkid EMILIO PETTERSEN right?

The roster of the team is here with both of them. Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup is the oldest on the team.
He is NOT on the U18 roster (though a few other 98 year players are).

Article about Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup

Here is an article about Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrups commitment to University of Maine. It also gives a brief description of him as a player.

A quote from the article: “He’s our leading goal scorer. He has a pro shot,” said Selects Academy 16-under coach Devin Rask, a former Providence College standout. “He competes. He has good ice vision, and he knows what he wants. He just needs to work on his footspeed.”

Another article that also describes his play etc. can be found here. I don't know if they have been mentioned here before.

Quotes from the second article: “He’s a phenomenal kid who’s very passionate and competitive on and off the ice,” Selects Academy 16U National coach Devin Rask said. “He’s a good student and a good representative of our community and program. He’s an elite hockey player who’s got great vision and sense and high-end stick skill.”

"He describes himself as someone who can put the puck in the net.
“I am a goalscorer. I love scoring goals,” Schmidt-Svejstrup said. “I am good with the puck, a good shot and get good looks. I have to work on my skating and my defensive play.”"

The USPHL U16 is a new league but it does have a number of well respected programs that are a part of it, including the Selects Academy. The difference between top teams and lower level teams is quite vast which explains the inflated stats of many players on better teams.

Schmidt-Svejstrup seemed to do pretty well in the league last year so I was a bit surprised he wasn't promoted to the U18 team this year. Committing to a college at his age isn't that unusual and while Maine has some history as a hockey power they've struggled in recent years.

The Selects Academy program is based at South Kent and players go to school there but they don't play for the school's hockey team.

I think next year will be a big one in telling what Schmidt-Svejstrup's hockey future could look like. If he moves on to the USHL and does well he could get some draft attention. If he's with the Selects Academy for another year, likely with the U18 team, things will be less clear.

In other news, both Ehlers and Bjork had 4pt nights in their return to their repsective jr. teams.

Bjorkstrand 1+3 and Ehlers 3+1 :)

Jacob Schmidt Svejstrup continues to put up strong numbers in the USPHL. He now has 25 goals and 10 assists in 15 games played. That makes him no. 11 on the high scorer list in the league. He is no. 2 in goals and no. 4 in points per game with 2.33 PPG.
He seems like a real sniper and one can wonder if he would have more assists if he was playing with another natural goal scorer or his passing skills are below average.

Bjorkstrand scored a hatty for Portland including a oh so sweet goal. http://www.winterhawks.com/videos

ITs the Portland (7) vs Tri-City (5) result. I don't have a direct link.

Ehlers point streak is at 22 right now...Drouin holds the halifax record at 29 games. at least a point per games since october 22nd for the dashing dane:P

Oliver Bjørkstrand with 3G 3A the Portlands 6-3 win over Everett and being +4.
He is now joint 3-4th point-wise in the WHL, though with fever matches than the other leaders.
He really proves that his numbers last years were not only the result of being on a super-talented team; but that he can carry it on his own shoulders. [Bjørkstrand, Petan and de Leo are one talented trio, but Bjørkstrand “sets the pace“ at the moment].

Janne Karlsson said he was very excited by Nikolaj Ehlers and definently would consider him for the WC, but only if he attended the training camp. That is ofcourse a loose term since training camp starts the 23th of march but players keep dropping in as their clubs go out of their league playoffs.

Does anybody know how the friendlies during WC-camp are scheduled?
I was wondering since I was looking how early Halifax would have to exist the playoff for him to be able to play in some of those games and be considered for the squad.
if we suppose that he would actually be allowed to go by Winnipeg ofcourse
(maybe they want him rested. Long season etc etc)

Looked at the dates for QMJHL playoff brackets from last year, since it would be somewhat similar this year.
1st Round: 21-30 March
Quarter Finals: 3-15 April
Semi Finals: 18-29 April
Finals: 2-13 May

Its about the same in the WHL in regards to Portland and Bjorkstrand, but I don't see them going out early enough. They are on a great run of form, so they could maybe even be a memorial cup contender...Its a stacked team.

Looks to even better after the WJC! Nice to see him beginning to be noticed even more now around the board and by hockey writers from time to time. No doubt he raised his stock at the tournament.

I have been asked several times about a list of the most interesting prospects in the Danish junior system. I have posted lists on other parts of the forum in the past, but can see that they maybe are outdated now. And furthermore I consider it better to have the most current list in this sub forum.

Please remember; I am just an amateur with a love for hockey. I could be dead wrong with my lists, so take it for what it is; a list of some of the Danish junior players to keep an eye on in the future.

There are a majority of forwards in my list. It doesn’t mean that there are few talented D-men or goalies, but that they are much more difficult to spot young. I have limited myself to the 7-8 most important talents in each birth year. There are many other talented players and some of them will probably surpass several of the players I have listed. Also you cannot see the depth of talent in each birth year; I’ll try to evaluate that in another post.

In this post I have just listed the players. I don’t have the time right now to comment on each player, so that must wait a little. But feel free to make your own comments, I’ll be happy for any feed back I get.

Let’s divide the prospects into two groups, according to how far they will reach if everything pans out right;

Top prospects: Players who could be picked in the NHL draft, and will likely play at an International level most of their career.
Honorable mention: Players who probably won’t be taken in the NHL draft. Still their talent is good enough to at least become a profile in the best Danish league and with the chance of becoming a regular in SWE, DEL and the like.

Players born in 1996:
Top prospects
Nikolaj Ehlers, Halifax Mooseheads (CAN) (F)
Matias Lassen, Rødovre (D)
Thomas Lillie, Vojens (G)

Honorable mention
Jeppe Vinther, Frederikshavn (D), 2015 draft
Thomas Olsen, Frölunda (SWE) (F)
Markus Jensen, Herning (F)
Emil Grandal Skjoldager, Herning (F)
Anders Krogsgaard, Esbjerg (D)

Players who could get drafted in the 2014 NHL draft besides the 1996 born players:
George Sørensen, Herning (G) 1995, 2nd time NHL draft eligible
Mikkel Aagaard Hansen, Frederikshavn (F) 1995, late born

Players born in 1997:
Top prospects
Morten Jensen, Rögle (SWE) (D)
Nicolai Höjer Weichel, Malmö (SWE) (D), 2016 draft
Rasmus Thykjær Andersson, Malmö (SWE) (F)

Honorable mention
Jeppe Jul Korsgaard, AaB (F), 2016 draft
Alexander True, Rungsted (F)
Nicklas Andersen, Esbjerg (F), 2016 draft
Christian Mieritz, Rødovre (D), 2016 draft

Players born in 1998:
Top prospects
Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup, Selects Hockey Academy (USA) (F)
Christian Gade, Rungsted (F)
Jonas Sander, Hvidovre (F), 2017 draft
Nikolaj Krag Christensen, Rødovre (F)

Honorable mention
Joachim Blichfeld, Frederikshavn (F)
Marcus Dalmark Pedersen, Frederikshavn (F)
Magnus Molge, Malmö (SWE) (F)
Daniel Nielsen, Vojens (F)
Jakob Jessen, Herning (D)

Players born in 1999:
Top prospects
Jonas Rønbjerg, Rungsted (F)
Lucas Andersen, Rødovre (F)
Christoffer Gath, Herlev (F)

Honorable mention
Andreas Grundtvig, Rødovre (F)
David Madsen, Vojens (F)
Marcus Bunch Nissen, Herning (F)
Malte S. Setkov, Rødovre (D)

Players born in 2000:
Top prospects
Nicklas Jensen, Herlev (F)
Mikkel Bertelsen, Frederikshavn (F)
Oliver True, Rungsted (F)

Honorable mention
Simon Sejerø Golbert, Herlev (F)
Gustav Green, Rungsted (F)
William Nistrup Madsen, Rungsted (F)
Frederik Langhans Kaels, Rødovre (F)
Andreas Kleist Christiansen, Esbjerg (D/F)

Not much. I consider him to be a top10 talent born 2000, maybe even a top5 talent. His production in U15 West this year has been remarkable (leading in both goals and points), and he has also had a good year playing in the U17 West league.
But I have never seen him play, so my evaluation is solely based on stats.
Why do you have an interest in him?

Oliver Bjørkstrand is having a massive season.

So now he has in 48 matches: 46G and 41A being second in the WHL, though he have played ~10 fewer matches than the competition around him.
So almost a 1 goal pr. game is hugely impressive.

Ehlers is not up in the same production frenzy lately, but still has his impressive streak running to 37 games.
So far in 41 games: 29G and 51A.

Oliver Bjørkstrand with 4G night and goes to 52G in 50 matches, that is very very impressive.
Ehlers had a more “normal" 1G 2A night.....

These two really brings Denmark on the hockey map at the moment......

Oliver Bjørkstrand has been on a pretty amazing streak since the JWC:
Last match he was without any points in a 2-4 defeat, but he still leads the WHL with 58G 54A (112P) in 57 matches. So hope he can keep it at or over 1 Goal pr game.....

Nikolaj Ehlers could't break the 100 point barrier last night as Halifax lost 0-3.
He is fourth in QMJHL with 37G 62A (99P) in 49 games.
