Putting Yurov and Hartman on the same line might be beneficial, allowing them to swap in and out of the center spot as needed as Yurov gets used to the NHL.

I forgot about Trenin and Ohgren. I don’t think Ohgren is ready to jump into a top 6 role. Also, going off Jan’s suggestion, bottom 6 could look like this:

Foligno-Yurov-Hartman
Ohgren-Marat-Trenin

In terms of FA aqusitions to fill that spot across from Boldy, how realistic is Boeser?

He'd have to really want to be here I think, and take less to do so. If we sign Rossi for $5M (which I'm thinking is going to be his bridge floor) and Khusnuts for $2M, we'll have $6M-$7M in space.

I want to trade for Marchenko, from Columbus.

I think we can give him the Fiala deal but we’re going to have to clear out someone like Freddy. And FWIW I wouldn’t give Marat 2M just yet.

I would love Marchenko but I’m doubtful he’s available. I mean, 1st + Ohgren maybe?

Kaprizov-Yurov-Marchenko line would be a good look

$2M is definitely an overestimation for what he's been so far. Just trying to be conservative.

I don't think Marchenko is available either, just a pipe dream given his skillset and contract.

I can’t wait for the fiery debates on where Rossi/Ek/Yurov should play.
It’s a bit silly in my eyes what number you call it. I can almost guarantee that JEE gets his 20+ minutes no matter who he plays 5v5 with and he deserves those minutes. Rossi and Yurov will split the rest either with legit top line talent or against opponents weaker players, either scenario should be good for them to be successful if they are good players themselves.

Kap rotates in with everyone during a game, every forward on this team gets an opportunity to make an impact with him on the ice. The cream will rise, and so far the coaching staff has done a good job at assessing the top guys IMO.

Winning puck battles is a very important part of the Center position, particularly in our system where good stick play is mandatory. Rossi has been proving he has what it takes to control the puck at this level, Yurov will have to prove that too and then opportunities will be there.

Hartman still gets plenty of offensive opportunity on this team, I see Yurov as filling a lot of similar needs as a shooting and transition threat in future seasons. A shooting center is in huge demand for this roster, 30+ goals should be quite obtainable for a guy that can bury from the slot.

Is realistically what I see it being next year. I could also see then moving on from Rossi if they can get an equivalent winger to fill that second like slot.
Move ek up a spot and move Khus up a spot and Yurov to wing. Simple

These arguments make Trenin at 4m one of the dumbest signings of all time

It could very well be like this, though I'm hesitant to do it just in case his move to center was really the lynchpin to the season he had last year.

It's not just 1C v 2C v 3C.

Who will get the PP time once Zuccarello is gone from the team?

Would they put Yurov as the wing on the top line with Kaprizov or second line with Boldy?

Is Ek better to have as 3rd line matchup nightmare center with PP/PK time boosting his minutes?

Will Boldy move to the top line once Zuccarello is gone?

What are they going to do with Heidt/Ohgren?

Will trying to avoid having an all rookie line impact how the lineup shapes out?

I don't think it is as simple a discussion as whoever on the third line is benefitting from weaker competition. We saw that when Rossi started on the 3rd line last year and people were up in arms about it despite him producing there.

I'm not opposed to any combination. But I certainly have high expectations for Yurov and I don't want to see him negatively impacted by opportunity or linemates. That means this team needs to focus on improving the winger spot. Bonus points if they add a right shot scoring forward (like Boeser).

Who said Zuccarello won't sign another 2 yr deal in 2026? $3M and 60 points? I'll take it. Jagr was 45 when he retired ;)

Oh...and this will help on a new deal for Kaprizov as well.

I would love to think that Zucc will still be a 60 point player at 39, but that's a tough ask for anyone. The hope would also be that by 2026 he will have been surpassed by some of the prospects in the organization. I could see (a) 1 year extension(s) if he can still play at a high level.

Yeah he said he'll quit when he feels like he can't contribute anymore. But he also has a big house under construction in Oslo, it will be ready mid 2026, so it looks like he plans retirement after his current deal. But you never know.

Very few players quit while they are still producing. We'll see what he is like at the end of the 25-26 season, but if he is still playing anything like he is now, they'll probably have him sign another short term deal. It will either be one year for more $$, or two for less...NMC, for sure.

I am a bit amused by all the worry about which top 6 C Yurov is going to bump from the lineup. Two years ago it was Marat. The guy is a good KHL player, but is hardly setting the league on fire like Kaprizov. The hope is that he will eventually be a top 6 player in the NHL, but it is by no means a sure thing, just like it is by no means a sure thing that he will be a top 6C in the NHL.
