Speaking of radio hosts, this is my all-time favourite John Short call-in (that I actually heard with my own ears):
It was back in the late 80's, around '88 or '89.
Older fans will remember during their early cup runs that there was a guy in the stands who had a megaphone and recorded sound effects, who got a measure of local notoriety for using his gear to heckle the Islanders during the playoffs, one of his best was his heckling of Billy Smith: "Billlllyyyy...oh Billllyyyy...I've got something for you Billllyyy..." *SOUND OF MACHINE GUN FIRE*

He was called "Superfan" or something like that.
Anyway, the fans in the stands ate it up and he even got interviewed a bit in the Sun and Journal. He was around for a few years, then one year he simply vanished.
So this one guy phones John one night in those late 80's, asking him about whatever happened to Superfan and how it'd be so great if the Oilers would bring him back to Northlands for the playoffs. You could tell that John was uncomfortable talking about it, saying something about how that wasn't an option, that the team didn't really want him around or something like that.
I think John was hoping that would be the end of it, but the caller was insistent and kept harping about why having Superfan around would be a good idea, he couldn't understand why the Oilers would not want that, and how great it was being a fan in the stands and hearing the guy's hilarious sound effects.
It finally came to a boil for Mr. Short, who went on a bit of a rant (paraphrasing as best I can, it's been over 25 years):
"Caller, do you want to know why he's not allowed at Oiler games any more? The Oilers barred him from Northlands Colosseum because they found that he was trying to get chummy with the players, and had heard that the guy was asking some players to lend him money!"
The caller was left pretty much speechless..."Oh. Oh, I see. OK then."
John Short was the best sports radio host Edmonton ever had, IMO.
