Dan Girardi

it's not just one bad game.....he was not very good in the regular season. COUNTLESS games he sucked. Want to blame it on that Subban blocked shot? Who knows?

It is TIME TO TRADE GIRARDI while you can get GOOD VALUE IN RETURN. It is one of those moves that are hard to make, but for Cap Reasons and for the betterment of the team. Trade him to Edmonton for couple of forwards. But it must be done now before he starts breaking down.

Don't get me wrong, I like G for the most part......but you have to make shrewd moves to keep your team competitive, or better. Now is that time......move Girardi in the off-season:naughty:

You really cant trade Girardi without a RH D-man coming back in return. Its that simple.

I put a lot of stock in that.....but at this point, I don't F'ing give a rats ass anymore. Trade him for some type of value, and worry about R-handed D later. You could perhaps trade some chips comming back in a G trade for a better flite RHD. But G needs to go.

He's a warrior more than a excellent schooled hockey player when he's paired with Staal or McDonagh he's an asset to this team and we all love the effort he plays with on every night more or less. Yesterday with Del Zotto he just looked lost, he needs to be back with McDonagh for game three and he'll bounce back to his standard.

You've made it quite clear in your posts that you dont care anymore and are just out for blood.

Im trying to map out a future to your demolition of this team and its management.

so we need to pair him with our best D-man in McD or else he will just flat out suck and get exposed every single shift? hmmmnn......:sarcasm::shakehead

The guy is regularly matched up against some of the best players in the world and has done exceedingly well at shutting them down. Nobody was complaining when he and McDonagh were shutting down AO & company, and now that he has one bad game the bashing has started again.

He's not the fastest skater, or most offensively talented, but people seriously underestimate just how important he is to this defense. RH, shutdown defenders aren't exactly growing on trees. Especially ones who can eat up 25 minutes or more per night against some of the best players in the world.

Oilers fan here, was curious about Girardi's availability and stumbled on this thread. Came to propose this:

Petry, 37th overall for Girardi. With no 1st or 2nd in this deep draft, you guys could continue to add to the prospect pool. Girardi is obviously better than Petry, but Petry brings much the same intangibles and is a superior skater. He also makes 1.75 and is RFA after next year vs Girardi's 3.325 UFA status.

If you want Girardi, we want to talk about your 1st + or Eberle/Hall/RNH/Yakupov

Well then, my bad. But none of those would be offered for Girardi. Maybe the 1st if he wasn't a UFA in a year. Maybe the idea will be revisited at the deadline next year depending on where the two teams find themselves at that time.

Possibly, but I would bet the Rangers re-sign him. He is their lone top-4 RD. Staal, MDZm and McDonagh are LD's. Moore is a LD. Stralman is the other RD.

I like this trade offer quite a bit. I am a fan of Petry and he is an efficient puck mover with good advanced stats, very underrated top 4 defenseman. Maybe add another piece like Hartikainen and I would do it. Girardi will command a lot his next contract and Petry is a nice replacement.

That's the point. If the Rangers have to add to Girardi, fine. But they won't move him for Petry + 2nd. He is their lone top-4 RD.

Petry is a RHD too. Yes, not in the same calibre as Girardi, but I don't see why he wouldn't play in your top 4. His only problem is he is Jekyll and Hyde from one night to the next. Under softies like Renney and Kreuger he hasn't found the consistency, under a hard ass like Torts this may happen. But that's really the only risk attached to him is the learning curve. In terms of skillset I think he is considerably ahead of Girardi, but Girardi has more poise, thinks the game better and has the heart of a lion, as well as more experience to draw upon.

Again, I understand any team making a deal wants to be getting the best player, hence your Girardi + for Hall counter, but there is zero incentive for us there. In my proposal however I feel there is some incentive (just not sure it's enough), in that

A) You gain some cap flexibility - 1.5 mil roughly. Could help in an off-season where you need to re-sign Stepan, McDonagh and Hagelin. I realize this could still be achieved without the proposed deal, but you may be limited with additional tweaking beyond that.

B) Petry still falls under the "potential" tag. He has the skillset to be better than Girardi but lacks the discipline/consistency/intangibles. It's a big maybe, but maybe the Rangers end up with the best player 3-4 years from now.

C) You get controlled years. He is RFA next year vs Girardi being UFA.

D) You get a pretty good draft pick in a strong draft year when you currently have no pick in the first two rounds (or do you guys even have a 3rd rder???).

Although we need to ice a bigger lineup next year, Hartikainen could be added. He's having an excellent playoff run right now, but I really want Girardi to pair with Klefbom next year.

If we go this route, I want Klefbom included.

Klefbom is an elite defenseman prospect with high IQ and underutilized offensive tools. No chance the Oilers would trade a top 3 defenseman prospect for 1 season of Dan Girardi. Especially since they're a young team.

I think Petry is getting severely underrated. He is progressing at the same rate Girardi was and is already a top 4 defenseman. I'd love to add him due to his puck moving abilities, skating ability and size.

Hartikainen has better numbers than Zach Kassian, who I really like from the Canucks. Neither seem to play with a mean streak in the Pro levels yet, but it seems Hartikainen has more offensive tools. He is a good replacement for Clowe down the line. Petry 2nd and Hartikainen, done deal from me.

It's not an underrating of Petry. Let me ask you this. If the Rangers trade Girardi, and Staal goes to Carolina, would you feel comfortable with a defense comprised of:

McDonagh
MDZ
Moore
Stralman
Petry
McIlrath

I would be open to a deal like this IF the Rangers offered him an extension and he shot them down and it seemed like he was looking for too much money.

Also, Klefbom has been out for pretty much this entire season with an injury.

Great minds think alike. I love Klefbom.

I laughed as well. Damn. Yeah it's probably just a deal that both teams would be close with their offers, but each would think they're giving up too much, and for me that is Klefbom. I think he's a poor man's OEL in the making. I know us Oiler fans are constantly accused of overrating our young players, but I will stand by that assessment 100%.

I would be perfectly content with that defense.

McDonagh-McIlrath*
MDZ-Petry
Moore-Stralman

*Also factor in FA signings like Rob Scuderi, who could slot in perfectly in the lineup. This defense corps is VERY mobile and I think it'll help tremendously with the transition game. Time for a culture change.
